General Job Summary:

The Arkansas & Missouri Railroad is seeking to employ a Signals Supervisor for our Signals Department. Our Signal Supervisor will lead the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical signaling systems that ensure safe and efficient railway operations. This pivotal role combines technical expertise with leadership, empowering you to oversee field service activities, coordinate team efforts, and uphold safety standards across complex electronic and electrical systems. The person in this position will take the lead in planning, coordinating, and guiding teams responsible for repairing, inspecting, and installing critical railroad signal, communication, and traffic‑control systems. Basic Duties:

Able to complete written forms and reports as required Able to read and interpret documents including safety rules, manuals, and regulations Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting)

Responsibilities:

Supervise the inspection, testing, and maintenance of crossing and train control systems ensuring they are performed in compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations (e.g., 49 CFR Part 234 & 236, MUTCD Test and Maintenance Procedures). Oversee installation of signal and highway traffic‑control equipment in line with FRA regulations, design plans and standards and policies. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and engineering troubleshooting manuals to accurately identify issues and implement solutions. Plan work assignments, manage schedules and ensure required materials are available . Provide technical support for troubleshooting and the restoration of crossing, lift bridge and train control devices to service. Investigate accidents and issue restorative work orders. Perform regular quality control and functionality testing of crossing, lift bridge and signal systems for regulatory rules and standards. Maintain and audit records of all tests, inspections, and repairs performed ensuring compliance with all company, state, and federal regulations. Assist with providing inspection coverage for open positions and signal maintainer vacations to maintain regulatory compliance. Train all employees in operating practices according to federal regulations and company policies; handle issues and resolve problems as they arise. Provide technical guidance and training to team members on electrical troubleshooting techniques, schematic reading, and equipment repair processes. Manage projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

Ability to work independently or lead a team in field service environments while adhering to safety protocols. Proven experience as a service technician or in a similar electrical field role with strong knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and maintenance. Hands-on experience with electrical equipment repair involving AC/DC systems, low voltage circuits, and electronic components. Skilled in performing electrical soldering tasks and working with computer hardware related to signaling systems. Familiarity with electronic systems troubleshooting including signal testing, circuit analysis, and equipment calibration. Strong problem-solving and mathematical abilities including data collection and analysis, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, etc. Mechanical knowledge relevant to signal infrastructure components such as switch machines or mechanical linkages is preferred. Must have thorough working knowledge of FRA regulations governing railroad-signal and train-control systems Knowledge of wayside/crossing detection and control and other signal-related apparatuses (

ABS, CTC, Search Light and Color Light Signals, Hot Box Detectors, Interlockers and AEI Readers, GCP3000+, MS4000, XP4, PMD-3, GCP4000/5000).

Job Requirements :

Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review. May be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening. Must hold a valid driver's license to drive on company business. Subject to motor vehicle report review. Must pass a background screening. Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call. Outdoor work in all weather conditions. Walking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring three points of contact. Able to squat, bend and lift overhead for extended periods of kneeling or crouching (bending at the knees). Occasional lifting of equipment and tools up to 90 pounds. Be comfortable with heights and working over water.

Relocation :

Must live within 30 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance may be offered for this position.

Required Education :

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), associate degree, or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school in electrical field; or high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and 5+ years of signal-maintenance and signal-construction work experience ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
