Job Description

Posting Details We provide a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicants' lists may be screened more than once. Why does the job exist? Position will assist with collection of data for traffic studies, including traffic counts, speed studies, pedestrian movement, and turning movements. This position will review and process special event and work permits, and oversee the district's Adopt-A-Highway program. Position will assist with inspection of pavement markings and contracted guardrail repair. In addition, will assist with maintaining the district's signing inventory. Position will prepare and issue work orders for installation, repair or other maintenance needs of the roadside features. Position will also set up message boards when required and support Construction and Maintenance sections. This position is with the Traffic section. How does it get done? By performing various traffic duties. Who are the customers? Traveling public and pedestrians. Ideal Candidate Traveling public and pedestrians. Minimum Qualification High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) months of experience in highway maintenance, construction, engineering, physical science, mathematics, surveying, drafting, highway design, traffic engineering, communications, dispatching, permits, and/or purchase orders. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) months may substitute for the required experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain a Driver's License, (or equivalent license from another state) within one (1) year of hire. Employment Requirements Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is performed in the field or office with travel required. Work extended hours standing or sitting. May be exposed to inclement weather, traffic, construction equipment, uneven terrain, lift up to 50 lbs. Use of required protective equipment, input and retrieve data from computer.
