JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision, supervise and lead small crew engaged in the maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of water meters. Participate in maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of water meters. Work on water mains, sewer mains, sewer clean-outs, etc., and other related work as required while working on call/stand-by duty. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervise and lead small crew in meter maintenance, repair, testing, and installation. Participate in maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of water meters. Disassemble, clean, repair, replace, and test defective or worn parts on water meters. Set, relocate, remove, and read fire hydrant meters. Complete work order tickets for each task performed. Read and understand written job instructions. Write reports by hand. Communicate courteously and effectively with other employees, officials, and the public. Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Hear clearly when working around equipment and in traffic, using proper safety precautions. Keep vehicles, storage areas, and meter shop clean, orderly, and in safe working condition. Perform preventive maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment. Lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds of equipment; pull, push, and/or drag up to 150 pounds of meter maintenance, repair, test, or installation equipment. Climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop, and/or twist for extended periods of time while maintaining, repairing, testing, or installing water meters. Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time while maintaining, repairing, testing, or installing water meters. Work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather. Some exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical and toxic hazards, using proper safety precautions. Work on water mains, sewer mains, sewer clean-outs, etc., and other related work as required while working on call/stand-by duty.

REOUIRED EDUCATION

DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES
High School Diploma or GED required. Texas Commercial Driver's License, Class A, is required or must be obtained within 6 months. Must have and maintain a Class II Wastewater and Class C Water Distribution License or must be obtained within one year of hire.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
One year of experience required as a Meter Maintenance Technician in maintenance and repair of water meters. Must have experience in supervising a small group in meter installations and repair.
Must have knowledge of:
the general theory of operations and applications of different types of meters; and American Water Works Association test requirements for new and repaired meters. Experience required in record keeping and completing reports.
