Job Summary
OverviewThe Chief Inspector is responsible for the oversight of inspection personal and all inspection-related activities within the Factory Service Center. This leader ensures compliance with FAA regulations and internal quality standards, manages the repair station roster, and serves as the primary liaison with the FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector (PMI). The Chief Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, airworthiness, and regulatory compliance of all aircraft maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day leadership and support for inspection team members, including performance management and development.
Maintain the Repair Station roster and ensuring required updates are proved to the PMI within five business days
Review and approve all maintenance and inspection documentation for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
Oversee and manage the repair stations technical data, calibrated tooling programs, and training compliance.
Develop and manage internal audit processes and corrective actions to ensure ongoing FAA compliance.
Serve as the primary point of contact during regulatory inspections or audits.
Collaborate with Maintenance and Quality teams to drive continuous improvement and process standardization.
Determine that, if the customers work scope is limited in nature, the requested maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration can be accomplished within the applicable data despite any other damage or discrepancies noted.
Ensure that prior to work being accomplished, a work order package with work instructions to perform the maintenance and inspections will be initiated to ensure that all repairs are complete and documented
Ensure that major alteration / repair determinations are accomplished in accordance with the specifications.
Ensure all incoming, hidden damage, preliminary, in-process, and final inspections are performed in accordance with requirements.
Determine equivalency of tools and equipment used by the repair station (other than that recommended by manufacturers) and document that determination.
Ensure records of all calibrations and checks are kept current, and the calibrations are performed.
Initiate work outside the repair stations fixed location.
Ensure that Inspectors performing RIIs are qualified and trained in accordance with the operators program prior to performing work under CFR Part 145.205.
Submit reports of serious failures, malfunctions, or defects.
Act as the primary contact for issues that may arise related to technical data, shelf life, calibrated tooling, and scrap parts.
Ensure qualifications and perform surveillance of certificated and non-certificated employees performing maintenance, preventative maintenance, and alterations.
Ensure Repair Station / Quality Control manual is kept current and accurate.
Continuously review the repair stations Training Program to ensure all the repair stations training needs are met.
Perform the repair stations "self-evaluation" to determine whether it has the housing, facilities, equipment, material, data, and trained personnel to add an article to its Capability List, if required
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in aviation science or technology desired
Minimum 8 years recent experience in practical aviation inspection and maintenance, including leadership roles
Indepth knowledge of 14 CFR Part 145 regulations.
Proven ability to lead teams and foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
FAA Airframe and Powerplant license
FAA Inspection Authorization highly preferred
Thoroughly versed in CFR FARs, inspection methods, techniques, practices, aids, applications, tools and equipment
