The Valet is responsible for ensuring jockeys' and drivers' equipment and clothing are properly maintained, prepared, and available for each race. The position works closely with jockeys, drivers, and trainers to assist with dressing, saddling, equipment preparation, and post-race activities. This role does not have supervisory or management responsibilities and requires adherence to safety procedures in a physically demanding environment.
NOTE:
This job is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug testing requirements. A positive drug test will result in a job offer being rescinded or, for active employees, termination, even if they test positive for marijuana and have a valid medical marijuana license. High school diploma or GED and at least 6 months of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to obtain and maintain licensing through the appropriate gaming authority. Valid driver's license required. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work around potential hazards and follow extensive safety precautions. Ability to work effectively with jockeys, drivers, trainers, and other team members. Clean, maintain, and properly store equipment and clothing used by jockeys and drivers. Assist jockeys and drivers with dressing and undressing in racing silks. Arrange saddles and pads to ensure the proper weights are carried in each race. Assist trainers with saddling horses before each race. Assist jockeys with unsaddling and transporting equipment back to the jockey/driver room after each race. Follow established safety procedures and use protective equipment as required.
