DEFINITION
Incumbent carries out a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance, repair, and replacement of all city buildings and outdoor facilities. Works under the direct supervision of the DPW Crew Leader of Building Maintenance and Grounds and reports to the Director of Public Works.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB TASKS
(Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions) Maintains all city-owned buildings and outdoor facilities. Installs, repairs, and replaces windows, doors, and locks as needed. 3. Changes out city flags and banners. 4. Helps landscape city parks and support event functions as needed. 5. Replaces roofs, handrails, decking, walkways, ceiling tiles, etc. 6. Performs finished carpentry and light framing work as needed. 7.Completes minor plumbing and HVAC support as needed. 8. various sizes (pick-up trucks, work van, box trucks, 1 ton dump, aerial lift, etc.) in a safe and efficient manner. 9. Safely and efficiently uses, purchases, and maintains various hand and power tools. 10. Operates heavier equipment as needed. 11. Participates in snow removal operations as needed. 12. Ensures projects are completed in a timely and accurate manner. 13. Performs other duties as assigned
OTHER RELATED FACTORS
Incumbent may work outside and, as a result, work in all kinds of climatic and weather conditions. Work exposes the employee to dust, dirt, smells, fumes and airborne particles and to moving mechanical machinery and the risk of electrical shock. Work requires the use of proper protective equipment. Employee is required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis, seven days per week (e.g., severe storms, vandalism, mechanical failures, etc.).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of equipment, methods, and techniques used in building maintenance and repair activities. Skill in operating various hand tools and small power tools. The ability to communicate orally and in writing and to perform as a member of a team. Must be able to frequently stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be capable of lifting loads up to 50 pounds and, with assistance, as much as 100 pounds. Must have the ability to go up and down ladders up to 28 feet high.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Three (3) years of experience with equipment, methods, and techniques used in building maintenance and repair activities.
