Building/General Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and highly motivated Maintenance Mechanic to join our facilities team at Canterbury School. We are a preparatory boarding school, grades 9-12, located in New Milford CT. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, functional and inviting campus environment for students, faculty, staff and visiting families. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes pride in their work and thrives in a team oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on campus buildings and systems Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other mechanical systems Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure optimal operation of facilities and equipment Respond promptly to maintenance requests and campus work orders Assist with campus projects, renovations, and seasonal tasks (e.g., snow removal, event setups and breakdowns) Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace in a clean, organized, and safe condition Follow all safety procedures and comply with applicable codes and regulations Collaborate with other facilities staff and departments to support campus needs

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred Demonstrated experience in general maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and building systems Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Effective communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment Valid driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a school, campus, or institutional setting Basic knowledge of HVAC systems

Carpentry Painting Electrical Plumbing Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions May be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts
