Position Summary The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic surgeon to join the Division of Burn Surgery at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. The Burn division is expanding the clinical enterprise to include complex wounds. This new position is structured as a dual clinical role, with 50%-75% effort in effort in complex wound care and 25%-50% effort in burns, including critical care. It is well suited for a surgeon interested in longitudinal patient care, reconstructive surgery, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The Jaycee Burn Center is one of the busiest burn centers in the United States and serves as a statewide referral center. The Division of Burn Surgery currently includes four faculty members who provide comprehensive care across the burn continuum, from acute injury through reconstruction and long-term recovery. This position is being recruited as an open-rank, open-track appointment at an FTE between 0.5 FTE and 1.0 FTE. The appointment may also be offered as a fixed term track or tenure/tenure track appointment. The faculty member will be expected to perform both clinical and research duties, along with the academic responsibilities of an educational institution. Clinical Responsibilities Complex Wound Care (0.5 FTE - 0.75 FTE) The complex wound care component includes both inpatient consultation and outpatient wound management, with scope and emphasis shaped by the candidate's expertise and interests. This practice may include, but is not limited to, surgical wounds, pressure injuries, diabetic wounds, soft tissue defects, and complex non-healing wounds. This is a new program and the allocated effort will increase over time. Burn Surgery (0.25 FTE - 0.5 FTE) The burn surgery component will emphasize acute burn care, including burn critical care, reconstruction, including operative management of hypertrophic scarring, contractures, chronic wounds related to burn injury, and functional restoration. Responsibilities include inpatient burn care, operative intervention, and outpatient follow-up. Burn call responsibility is estimated to be one week every five weeks Participation in the care of critically ill burn patients Active involvement in the burn fellowship and resident education programs Individuals who exhibit exceptional skills and achievements may be considered for a leadership position within the department of surgery. Leadership roles are not guaranteed and are dependent upon the current needs of our surgical service lines. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements MD/DO Prospective candidates must Board Certified/Board Eligible in General Surgery and/or Plastic Surgery AND Surgical Critical Care. Must either have a current North Carolina Medical License or be eligible for application. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience The ideal applicant will have a focused and demonstrated interest or experience in burn reconstruction and complex wound management. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act.
