PRIMARY PURPOSE:

A Bus Aide assists the school bus driver in providing safe, orderly, and efficient transportation for students to and from school and school-related activities. The Bus Aide helps supervise student behavior, assists students with special needs, and ensures compliance with safety procedures.

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED preferred

Qualifications:

Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergencies Ability to lift, bend, stoop, and assist students physically when necessary Must pass criminal background check and drug screening as required by state law

Experience:

Experience working with children or students with special needs CPR and First Aid certification Experience in school transportation or childcare settings

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist students when boarding and exiting the bus Maintain student safety and appropriate behavior while the bus is in operation Help supervise loading and unloading at schools and bus stops Assist students with disabilities or special needs, including securing wheelchairs, seat belts, safety vests, or child restraint systems Follow Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or transportation plans when applicable Communicate behavioral or safety concerns to the bus driver and school administration Assist with emergency evacuation drills and emergency situations Ensure aisles and emergency exits remain clear Provide support during field trips and extracurricular transportation as assigned Maintain confidentiality regarding student information Complete incident reports or documentation as required Attend required training sessions and safety meetings

Working Conditions:

School buses and school transportation settings Exposure to traffic, weather conditions, and moderate noise levels Split-shift schedule may be required (morning and afternoon routes)

Maintain control under stress.

Physical Demands:
