Job Description

The Washington Commanders are seeking a talented Business Intelligence Summer Intern to join the Business Intelligence team. This person will play a critical role in supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization by assisting with reporting, analysis, and dashboard development. This individual will be detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and able to manage multiple analytical tasks while supporting the day-to-day operations within the strategy & analytics function. This role reports to the Head of Strategy & Analytics.
Internship Hours:
40 hours per week + additional hours as necessary
Role Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and execution of business intelligence reporting, including maintaining dashboards and tracking key performance indicators across business units.
  • Assist with data collection, cleaning, and validation to ensure accuracy and consistency across reporting systems.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms to support organizational decision-making.
  • Analyze data related to ticket sales, fan engagement, marketing campaigns, sponsorship performance, and operational metrics.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate business needs into data-driven insights.
  • Assist with preparing weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and opportunities within datasets and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Support data workflows and documentation, including data definitions, report specifications, and process improvements.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking on industry trends, fan behavior, and sports business analytics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Key Skills/Qualifications
  • Pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis techniques).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
  • Basic knowledge of SQL; experience with Python or R is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of artificial intelligence tools, including Claude Code
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to handle confidential and proprietary data with professionalism.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and internal drive to contribute to a high-performing team culture.
