Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an independent contractor to work about 324 hours per year, on a flexible schedule, with office and equipment provided. Candidate will provide Christian-based leadership to successfully execute fund accounting, financial analysis and planning for the St. Paul's United Methodist Church Foundation, in order to support the mission and ministries of St. Paul's Church. Duties
  • Gain and maintain an understanding of the mission and ministries of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
  • Process all incoming donations and outgoing payments for the Foundation.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in a timely manner by reconciling accounts, initiating financial transactions and communicating summaries of the financial position.
  • Create and manage the Foundation budget, monitoring regularly to ensure the organization follows that plan.
  • Frequently review governing policies and procedures to ensure strict compliance particularly as they relate to Foundation fund agreements and expectations.
  • Update and maintain the Market Analysis report which reflects the corpus and earnings for each fund and fund type, including permanent and semi-permanent endowments and term endowments.
  • Create a distribution plan annually for the Foundation Board, to indicate the earnings available for distribution to the church, scholarships and Foundation operations.
  • Take an active role in the Scholarship Committee, recruiting applications from candidates, assisting the committee with the review and scoring process and distributing scholarship funds.
  • Work with the external financial services firm, providing requested information for the review or audit of financial statements and preparation of the IRS-990 report.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with board, staff and church members, maintaining confidentiality and establishing trust with donors.
  • Meet with and report as requested to the Foundation Board and board committees about the Foundation financials and other activities.
  • Participate in executing a comprehensive strategy for the Foundation which includes fund accounting, in cooperation with the Executive Director and Foundation Board, to support the ministries of the church.
Core Competencies:
  • Have a 4-year accounting degree or equivalent bookkeeping and financial reporting experience, and be familiar with fund accounting
  • Be fluent in Microsoft 365, especially Excel
  • Have strong critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Adhere to the basic tenets of Christianity and have an active spiritual life
  • Be willing to enthusiastically support the missional priorities of St. Paul's UMC
  • Be an organizer who keeps accurate records, consistently meets task and project timelines and does thorough follow-up
  • Be a motivated self-starter who needs minimal guidance and works with persistence, optimism and creativity
  • Be able to maintain good working relationships with the Foundation's staff and board and the Church's staff and members
  • Have strong verbal, written and listening skills
  • Understand and abide by principle fundraising standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professional, including but not limited to honesty and transparency Training is available from the current
Treasurer Pay:
$9,000.00 - $10,000.00 per year
