Job Description

Independent Members of the
Board of Governors Board of Governors Location:
Lincoln Closing Date:
Sunday 05 July 2026
Reference:
BOG26B The Board of Governors plays a focal role in the strategic development and overall performance of the University of Lincoln, and membership of the Board offers a rewarding opportunity for individuals to play a key part in enhancing the University's success and reputation regionally, nationally and internationally, as well as personal development and networking opportunities that this brings. We are recruiting to independent member vacancies on our Board and welcome applications from individuals with senior leadership experience and a strong commitment to higher education, public service and organisational stewardship, who can provide independent constructive challenge to the executive team whilst acting as ambassadors for our University. We are interested in hearing from candidates who can bring strategic insight, development and innovation expertise and from a broad range of sectors, including business, industry and international partnerships, entrepreneurship, technology and digital innovation, finance and other professional services, healthcare, education, the creative and cultural industries, the public sector, charities and social enterprises. The Board meets six times a year, with a strategic away day combined with a formal meeting. Members are expected to prioritise attendance, as well as training and development days. There are also opportunities for members of the Board to join one or more of the Board's sub-committees. Governors are not paid, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed. The University of Lincoln is an increasingly diverse community of students and staff, and it seeks to reflect that in its Board of Governors. Applications are welcome from individuals of any race, sex, disability, religion, belief, age, or sexual orientation. We particularly encourage applications from women and individuals from ethnically diverse backgrounds, who are currently underrepresented among our Board membership. Selection will be based on the skills, experience and attributes required for the role. Interested individuals should submit a brief covering letter outlining their expertise and experience with reference to the role descriptor, and a copy of their CV, to governance@lincoln.ac.uk on or before Sunday 5 July 2026. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held in July/August 2026. An applicant pack, containing the role descriptor, can be found below this vacancy.
