DESCRIPTION Now accepting online submissions for 2 shows that will be performing as a part of the SheLA Summer Theater Festival at Rogue Machine Theatre, West Hollywood, July 6-12. Read the full casting notice and by May 24 at: shenycarts/she-la HER WAY About the show: Summoned home to her mother's apartment in Kaoshiung, Jessica walks into an ambush: her mother, Anita, has stage 4 cancer, and a deadline. Anita wants to die with dignity by week's end, and she wants Jessica's help. As a typhoon locks the family inside, pressure builds, secrets spill, and love turns volatile. With her father, Gary, caught in the middle, this darkly funny, emotionally explosive drama asks: can a mother and daughter ive each other before time runs out? Currently casting for: JESSICA, 30ish Anita and Gary's only daughter. She is half-Taiwanese and half-white. She is fluent in both Mandarin and English. Her Mandarin name is "Chen Yu." She is smart, funny, and strong-willed. She is also overweight. Actors of East Asian background wee to audition. Actors of varying body sizes also wee! Actors do not need to be fluent in Mandarin, but t may be Mandarin words/phrases spoken. ANITA, 60ish Jessica's Taiwanese mother, who speaks English with a noticeable Taiwanese accent. It is obvious she is not a native speaker. She is shorter than Jessica. She is plump but smaller than Jessica. She has a great sense of humor, but is also domineering. Actors of East Asian background wee to audition. Actors do not need to be fluent in Mandarin, but t will be a few Mandarin words/phrases spoken. GARY, 60+ Jessica's white-American father. He has a great sense of humor. He hides his emotions. He is closer to Jessica than Anita. He is taller than both Anita and Jessica. He is also fluent in both Mandarin and English.
THE PARTNER OR, THE SOU-SOU PLAY
About the show: Every Tuesday night, five first-generation women meet to exchange money, gossip, and insults. Their deepest secrets are pulled out of the shadows when a new, non- Caribbean member joins the group. The Partner, or The Sou-Sou Play pulls at the threads of how tightly we can hold on to our secret lives, no matter the cost. Currently casting for: Non-AEA African-American and Caribbean Black female actresses 30s to early 40s. Experience with Caribbean dialect preferred. Actors with recent theatre experience highly encouraged to submit.
