Prince William County Fire & Rescue System is seeking a motivated and technology-focused Business Systems Analyst to join our Communications & Information Technology (CIT) Division. This position supports the technology systems that enable about 1,700 Fire & Rescue end users (to include uniformed employees, professional staff, and active volunteers) to serve the residents and visitors of Prince William County. About This Role:
The Business Systems Analyst serves as an integral member of the Fire & Rescue Communications & Information Technology team, supporting a diverse portfolio of public safety applications, hardware, and technology initiatives. This position works closely with firefighters, paramedics, dispatch personnel, administrative staff, County technology partners, and software vendors to ensure reliable and effective technology services. The successful candidate will assist with the administration, support, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of software applications used throughout the Fire & Rescue System. Responsibilities include troubleshooting application issues, coordinating user access, supporting software upgrades, developing documentation and training materials, assisting with project deployments, and providing Tier 2 technical support to end users across hardware, software, mobile devices, and peripherals. This role offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of technologies, including public safety software platforms, Microsoft 365 applications, Power Platform tools, reporting solutions, mobile technologies, and operational support systems. The position also participates in department technology projects, application evaluations, process improvement initiatives, and regional public safety technology efforts. The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-service oriented, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and capable of communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and four (4) years of related experience. Related experience includes technology support, business systems administration, software support, application administration, project coordination, information technology, business analysis, or other closely related technology functions.
Preferences:
The successful candidate will possess one or more of the following: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Experience supporting enterprise software applications or business systems. Experience providing technical support in a public safety, government, healthcare, or other mission-critical environment. Experience with software implementation projects, user acceptance testing, or system deployments. Experience developing documentation, training materials, and standard operating procedures. Experience with Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint, Teams, Forms, Power Automate, Power Apps, or Power BI. Experience managing user accounts, permissions, and system configurations. Experience working directly with software vendors and external partners. Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, ITIL, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent credentials. Special Requirements (if applicable): Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, Virginia EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted through the Virginia State Police and applicable federal databases. A driving record transcript may also be required.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 37.5-hour work week, primarily during normal business hours. Occasional evenings, weekends, or after-hours work may be required to support system upgrades, technology deployments, emergency operations, or critical incidents. This is a telework-eligible role that may revert to in-office scheduling if business needs change.
Starting Salary Range:
