Fort Smith, AR NMS is seeking a detail-oriented Purchaser to manage procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment. This role is key to keeping operations running smoothly and cost-effectively. Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Construction Materials Purchaser to join our procurement team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing high-quality construction materials essential for our projects. Your expertise in supply chain management, vendor relationships, and procurement systems will drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness across our operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale construction initiatives while utilizing cutting-edge ERP systems and procurement tools. Duties Manage the end-to-end procurement process for construction materials, including sourcing, purchasing, and delivery scheduling. Utilize ERP systems such as SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle EBS, and AS400 to track inventory levels, process purchase orders, and analyze procurement data. Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships through effective communication, negotiation, and contract management. Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials while optimizing inventory control and supply chain flow. Conduct market research to identify new suppliers, evaluate pricing strategies, and source high-quality materials aligned with project specifications. Analyze Excel data and spreadsheets to monitor purchasing trends, evaluate supplier performance, and support strategic sourcing decisions. Support production planning by aligning procurement activities with project timelines and ensuring availability of materials for manufacturing or construction phases. Skills Proficiency in
SAP ERP, JD
Edwards, Oracle EBS, and other supply chain management software. Strong knowledge of materials management, inventory control, and logistics processes within the construction industry. Experience with purchasing management systems (technically supported) and vendor negotiation techniques. Excellent communication skills for vendor relationship management and contract negotiations. Ability to analyze Excel data effectively for pricing analysis, procurement forecasting, and reporting purposes. Familiarity with MRP (Material Requirements Planning), sourcing strategies, and direct negotiation procurement methods. Knowledge of e-commerce platforms related to construction supplies and familiarity with accounting software used in procurement processes.
