This position supports department operations by maintaining appropriate inventory levels, coordinating promotions, ensuring accurate pricing and signage, and delivering exceptional customer experience. The HaBA Buyer reports to the El Cerrito Store Manager and Buying Manager. Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service and product knowledge assistance to customers. Order and maintain appropriate inventory levels, including special orders and shared inventory coordination between both store locations. Manage pricing, promotions, margins, and product information for POS accuracy. Maintain department merchandising standards, signage, organization, cleanliness, and visual presentation. Receive, stock, organize, and rotate product inventory, including management of back-stock areas. Process invoices and assign the appropriate accounting codes for payment. Coordinate monthly promotions and in-store specials in partnership with the Berkeley HaBA Buyer. Build and maintain productive relationships with vendors and sales representatives. Stay informed on market trends, new products, and industry developments within the HaBA category. Educate staff on new and featured products as needed. Communicate department updates, inventory concerns, and operational needs to store leadership. Prepare department for annual inventory. Coordinate and order Housewares, ensuring appropriate inventory levels, merchandising and pricing Support other store departments and perform additional duties as assigned based on operational and business needs. Qualifications Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently in a fast-paced retail environment. Professional verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with customers, vendors, and team members. Knowledge of HaBA products and retail buying practices preferred. Experience Requirements 3-5 years of retail or HaBA-related experience preferred. Relevant education or related experience may be considered in lieu of direct experience. English proficiency (written and verbal) required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds. Ability to work in varying temperatures and confined storage areas as needed. Scheduling and Availability This position is scheduled for five consecutive days per week, with days and hours varying based on business needs. Typical scheduling will include Sunday and Monday off, based on department scheduling needs. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and shifts related to annual inventory preparation is required. Work Environment This position operates in a retail grocery environment with frequent interaction with customers, employees, vendors, and management. The role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
