Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Purchasing Specialist to join our team. As a Purchasing Specialist you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless flow of materials, products and supplies within our organization. You will be responsible for overseeing purchasing and inventory management to support our operational needs and strategic objectives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions. Research vendors and collect prices, specifications, and other data related to goods and services. Makes recommendations and decisions taking into consideration all relevant factors. Strong negotiation skills are required. Purchases supplies, materials, and parts for the company and enters purchase orders based upon departmental request, budgetary constraints, and Kanban system. Maintains knowledge of prices, buyers, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; directs purchasing programs accordingly. Reviews purchase orders for compliance with company and departmental policies. Learn, assist, update and maintain Kanban systems for all departments. Improve the recordkeeping of the purchasing department. Communicates with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale. Generate reports, purchase orders, memoranda, and other documents. Receive product in system daily and follow up with invoices as needed. Includes entry into computer systems along with proper unpacking, delivery, and storage of items in correct areas. Maintain communications with the company requestor of supplies, and vendors. Facilitates product return process and ensures proper credit provided for return products. Cross trains to fill in for other office staff as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven negotiation skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and ethics when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the company. Ability to effectively train others. Understanding of business and management principles. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as inventory software.
Education and Experiences:
Degree in business or related field with coursework in purchasing and/or inventory control management, required.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
