Job Description
Buyer - Manufacturing & Industrial Supply Chain Join the Wessels team! Wessels is seeking an experienced Buyer to join our Purchasing Department. This position plays a key role in ensuring our manufacturing operations have the materials and services needed to meet customer commitments. The ideal candidate has experience purchasing steel, fabricated components, industrial equipment, or other manufactured products in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities
- Source and purchase raw materials, fabricated components, and outside services to support manufacturing operations.
- Obtain competitive quotes, negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms with suppliers.
- Issue and manage purchase orders while ensuring on-time deliveries.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively resolve shortages, delays, and quality concerns.
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, Planning, Inventory, and Sales to support customer delivery requirements.
- Develop new suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with existing vendors.
- Analyze inventory levels, lead times, and demand to ensure material availability without excessive inventory.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP system. Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience sourcing steel, stainless steel, fabricated parts, industrial equipment, valves, pipe, flanges, or pressure vessel components is highly preferred.
- Understanding of manufacturing drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and production schedules.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. What We Offer
