Job Description
Crane Manufacturing Facility | Braithwaite, Louisiana A diversified South Louisiana company with operations in Houma, Braithwaite, and Ponchatoula, EBI is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to support purchasing and procurement activities for our marine crane manufacturing facility in Braithwaite, LA. This position is responsible for obtaining materials, parts, equipment, and consumables needed to support day-to-day facility needs. The Purchasing Agent will work closely with operations and production management to ensure the right materials are available when needed and at competitive costs. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, persistent, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment, and will be expected to understand and communicate with team members, vendors, and follow an order from the initial request through delivery. Because our operations are closely connected, the ability to communicate effectively across departments and locations is essential. Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day purchasing activities for the crane manufacturing facility.
- Source materials, parts, components, equipment, and services while obtaining competitive pricing and availability.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and monitor orders through delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships, including negotiating pricing, lead times, freight, and other purchasing terms when appropriate.
- Work closely with production, operations, warehouse, service, and management to anticipate material needs and prevent production delays.
- Research and develop new vendor sources for standard, specialized, and hard-to-find materials and components.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with maintaining appropriate stock of frequently used materials and components.
- Coordinate with warehouse and accounting personnel regarding receiving, invoices, purchase orders, and discrepancies.
- Resolve issues involving shortages, incorrect or damaged shipments, vendor discrepancies, and delayed deliveries.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation and assist with tracking material costs.
- Coordinate purchasing needs between the Houma, Braithwaite, and Ponchatoula operations and identify opportunities for cost savings and consolidated purchasing.
- Assist management with vendor evaluations, purchasing projects, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications
- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, materials management, or a related field; experience in a manufacturing, marine, industrial, oil & gas, or construction environment preferred.
- Experience with purchasing or ERP systems and general knowledge of accounting and sales tax preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple requests and deadlines.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective vendor relationships, negotiate when appropriate, and work independently while communicating effectively with production, operations, and management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Ability to read and understand basic part descriptions, specifications, drawings, and bills of materials.
- General knowledge of industrial and hydraulic components, steel, and mechanical components is a plus.
