Job Description
Purchasing Specialist What will you do? Work from established procedures to purchase products and services, considering variables such as price, quality, service, and lead time. Continually work to improve established procedures in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Set up new part numbers, update and maintain existing database. Maintains new and existing vendor files. Maintain tracking data base for incoming imports. Manage/Recommend inventory levels of all purchased items from a wide variety of domestic and international vendors. Study sales records and inventory levels. Place orders and expedite deliveries. Process sales inquiries and orders in a timely manner. Review order acknowledgements and follow up on existing orders. Track air, truck, and ocean freight for incoming orders and direct shipments. Assist in maintaining and improving existing vendor metrics and relationships. Negotiate with new and old vendors for improvements to quality, pricing, lead times, and service. Interact closely with Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Management personnel to provide clear and concise dialogue within all departments. Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers to determine cause of problem and take corrective and preventative action. Assist in developing and implementing purchasing strategies for products. Coordinate with Accounts Payable Department to ensure accurate and timely payments of invoices, as necessary for the business with the supplier. What are we looking for? Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma. Exceptional systems acumen (Inventory systems and comprehension, general accounting) Ability to master usage of a customized IT applications. Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, time management, communication and writing skills. 1-3 years manufacturing purchasing/supply chain process role preferred. Attention to detail, ability to follow policies/procedures and easily adapt to change and contribute and work effectively with others in a team environment. Ability to keep track of deadlines and meet goals and project related expectations, work independently with minimal oversight required.
