The Purchasing Division of the Finance Department with the City of Springfield is responsible for the solicitation of a wide array of products and services. Buyers support departments such as Police and Fire, Public Works, Springfield-Branson Airport, Dickerson Park Zoo, Environmental Works, Information Systems, Health and Parks Departments and many others. The Purchasing Division specializes in the solicitation of products and services which are highly technical and complex. The Purchasing Division represents the City of Springfield to many businesses and organizations on a local and national level. The departmental goal is to solicit the needed products or services at the lowest and best price deemed to be in the best interest of the City and offer fair bidding through the RFP, IFB, IFIB and RFQu processes. Experience, Education and Training Graduation from an accredited college or university, with a Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Materials Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or related field; AND At least one year of experience as a buyer of equipment, materials and supplies in the private or public sector; Responsible work experience in public or private sector purchasing may be substituted for formal education on a year-for-year basis.
