Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Capital Buyer plays a critical role in the procurement of capital equipment, technology, and services that support the strategic and operational goals of the NMHS healthcare organization. This position is responsible for managing the end-to-end purchasing process for capital acquisitions, ensuring that all purchases are made in accordance with organizational policies, budgetary constraints, and regulatory requirements. The Capital Buyer reports to the Capital Manager, and works closely with the Capital Coordinator, clinical, financial, and operational stakeholders to understand project needs, develop specifications, and source high-quality products and services at competitive prices. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to negotiate effectively with vendors to secure favorable terms. The Capital Buyer must be proficient in using ERP systems and capital benchmarking tools to evaluate procurement decisions, track expenditures, and maintain accurate records. In addition to transactional purchasing, the Capital Buyer contributes to strategic sourcing initiatives, vendor performance evaluations, and continuous improvement efforts within the supply chain function. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in healthcare supply chain operations, a deep understanding of capital procurement processes, and the ability to manage multiple capital requests simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Execute purchasing activities for capital equipment, construction, and services.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define specifications and requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors.
  • Maintain accurate records in ERP systems from end to end/procure to pay process.
  • Utilize capital benchmarking tools to evaluate procurement decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and healthcare regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field. Required Or
  • Associate's Degree with 4 years experience beyond the minimum requirement. Required Licenses and Certifications

  • 4-6 years. 6 years of experience in the supply chain or finance field, preferably in healthcare.. Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of computers and software programs including Microsoft Office applications; required
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment; required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; required
  • Excellent organizational skills; required
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures; required
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently interact with individuals and also work independently
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently handle required tasks as assigned
  • Must perform as a peer leader and mentor when communicating the urgency of supply needs with other departments
  • Must provide leadership and mentors to other Buyers by example and assistance with on-the-job training.
  • Must guide NMHS staff in proper purchasing techniques and vendor relations.
  • Must assess the needs of employees, vendors, and visitors and handles each need appropriately and with courtesy
  • Must perform all functions in a professional, confidential, and positive manner
  • Must be able to support extensive contact with: internal and external customers, staff, vendors, visitors
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
