Job Description:
Belcan is seeking a Senior Buyer for a direct-hire opportunity with Client, a designer and manufacturer of adhesive-bonded fastening and assembly solutions used across aerospace, defense, space, marine, and other high-performance industries. This position will initially focus on the execution and supplier-management work needed to keep production moving. The Senior Buyer will primarily manage existing outside-service suppliers that perform services on Client's parts. The current work is approximately 70% transactional and 30% strategic, with the role expected to move toward supplier relationship management, supplier projects, cost savings, and contract negotiation as purchasing tools and processes mature. What You'll Do- Place, track, expedite, and manage purchase orders for outside services, materials, equipment, and other assigned requirements.
- Coordinate parts sent to outside-service suppliers and maintain close follow-up to protect manufacturing schedules.
- Identify shortages and late deliveries early, drive recovery plans, and communicate status clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Own a portfolio of critical existing suppliers and conduct monthly business reviews using supplier scorecards and aligned performance data.
- Work with suppliers to identify root causes, corrective actions, and measurable improvements in on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost.
- Maintain accurate supplier, part, pricing, lead-time, minimum-order, and purchase-order data in the ERP system.
- Partner with planning, master scheduling, manufacturing, supplier quality, engineering, and finance to resolve supply issues.
- Evaluate proposals for completeness, specification compliance, quality, pricing, and delivery requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, delivery commitments, commercial terms, cost savings, and contracts as assigned.
- Mentor and advise junior purchasing team members while contributing informed, constructive feedback to the team. Required Qualifications
- Seven or more years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated supplier ownership beyond purchase-order entry, including expediting, shortage recovery, delivery management, and cross-functional issue resolution.
- Experience managing outside-service or outside-processing suppliers, or directly comparable suppliers whose performance affects production schedules.
- Ability to lead supplier performance discussions, interpret scorecards, align on data, and drive corrective actions.
- Strong manufacturing ERP experience. Epicor is preferred; SAP is considered transferable.
- Strong negotiation, contract-review, written communication, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and remain composed in a shortage-driven environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work fully onsite in Carson City, Nevada. Preferred Experience
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, operations, or a related field.
- APICS, ISM, CPSM, CPIM, CSCP, or related supply-chain training or certification.
- Supply-chain project-management experience.
- Experience negotiating contracts and identifying unfavorable or one-sided commercial terms.
- Quantified improvements in supplier on-time delivery, lead time, cost, responsiveness, or data accuracy.
- Experience mentoring or advising less-experienced buyers.
- Aerospace or defense experience is helpful, but Client will consider candidates from any manufacturing industry. What Makes This Opportunity Different
- Own supplier relationships that directly affect production and customer delivery.
- Help stabilize tactical execution now and shape the team's transition toward more strategic supplier management.
- Work visibly across procurement, planning, scheduling, quality, manufacturing, engineering, and finance.
- Join a team that values honest feedback, accountability, collaboration, and calm problem-solving under pressure.
- Support products used in demanding aerospace, defense, space, marine, and high-performance applications.
