Job Description
This role is the driving force behind finding and matching carrier availability to customer needs. Strategic Sourcing Specialists II maximize their capabilities to grow business by sourcing both existing and future customer capacity needs. To that end, the role will develop strong relationships with known motor carriers and source and develop relationships with new carriers to ensure load coverage and excellent service. Responsibilities Clearly understand internal instructions regarding a customer's shipment requirements and handle complex shipments Find and hire motor carriers, and other freight transportation providers, with capabilities to ensure shipment parameters and customer satisfaction are met or exceeded (a/k/a "Cover" loads) Confidence in carrier selection process to ensure carrier has been fully briefed and properly vetted to be successful with a shipment or series of shipments Develop meaningful relationships with carriers and operational understandings, helping match carrier preferred lanes with freight, and work with carriers as determined by the company Continually source new carriers, developing the same relationships and understandings Continually collaborate with internal colleagues, teammates, and any other personnel necessary to help secure new business Collaborate closely with Sales Representative (SR) and Account Management (AM) staff to perfectly understand customer needs, including Standards of Care and Standard Operating Procedures, in order to meet customer needs and demands as well as ensure the motor carriers know what they are getting Be aware of, review, know where to find, and work in accordance with, company policies and procedures Demonstrate pricing proficiency, resourcefulness, and creativity, relating to negotiating pricing with carriers Strategize on how to meet carrier and customer satisfaction Persuade and negotiation with carriers and customers to ensure best prices are obtained Ensure relationships, carrier and customer needs are developed and cared for to ensure sustainability Have a sense of urgency to successfully complete tasks at hand Effectively leverage existing carrier relationships and on-board new carriers while securing solid commitments on tough new lanes and seizing new load/lane opportunities Manage capacity while working closely with the customer team in the development of new opportunities Prepare meetings and agendas with carriers Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong negotiation skills Ability to work as a team and independently as needed Strong organizational skills Strong communication skills Ability to multi-task and prioritize Knowledge of the trucking/logistics industry Ability to create positive relationships with customers Strong customer service skills Ability to take verbal and written instruction and execute with confidence Effective leadership abilities Ability to present action plans and strategies to both internal and external contacts Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business management or similar field required. One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for every year of education required. Candidates with more extensive or highly relevant experience may be considered toward the higher end of the overall pay band.
