Job Description

Summary Description:
The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, components, tooling, consumables, and services required to support automotive shipping rack production, job shop manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will ensure cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality, delivery, and inventory objectives.
Responsibilities:
Source and procure raw materials including steel, aluminum, hardware, fasteners, and fabrication components. Purchase welding supplies, paint, packaging materials, and production consumables. Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, pricing, lead times, and service levels. Negotiate contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier terms to achieve cost savings. Issue and manage purchase orders through the company's in house computer system. Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, delivery, and responsiveness. Coordinate with production, engineering, maintenance, and quality departments to ensure material availability. Expedite critical orders to prevent production interruptions. Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers. Review material requirements generated by production schedules and customer demand. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on procurement efficiency and cost reduction. Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and automotive industry requirements. Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier documentation.
Experience:
3-5+ years of purchasing experience in manufacturing, automotive, metal fabrication, or industrial environments. Experience purchasing steel, fabricated components, dunnage, and production supplies preferred. Knowledge of automotive OEM and Tier 1 supplier requirements is an asset.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or a related field or experience Proven experience as a Purchaser or in a similar role Understanding of the types of materials and products used in the manufacturing process. Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment Willingness to meet with potential customers to establish good relationships Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with suppliers Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices Ability to negotiate favorable prices, terms, and conditions with suppliers. Familiarity with sourcing strategies and techniques Knowledge of logistics processes Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions.
