Shipping Manager About Protech Medical For more than 40 years, Protech Medical has been a trusted manufacturer of radiation protection apparel and accessories used by healthcare professionals throughout the United States and around the world. Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, we are committed to delivering high-quality products and excellent service to our customers. As our company continues to grow, we are looking for experienced professionals who enjoy working in a hands-on environment, solving problems, improving processes, and making a meaningful contribution to the organization. About the Position Protech Medical is looking for an experienced Shipping Manager to lead and coordinate our daily shipping operations. Our shipping environment is hands-on and not fully automated. We need someone who understands the complete shipping process and is comfortable working directly with orders, documentation, shipping systems, carriers, freight, and the shipping team. A major part of this role is thinking through the process and making good decisions. The Shipping Manager must be able to evaluate the workload, identify what is most important, anticipate potential issues, and adjust priorities based on customer needs, deadlines, carrier schedules, and business requirements. This is not a desk-only management position. The successful candidate will lead the department while remaining actively involved in the operation. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and organize the daily activities of the Shipping Department.
- Review daily orders and establish shipping priorities based on deadlines, customer requirements, carrier schedules, and operational needs.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments, including small parcel and freight.
- Oversee and process shipments using FedEx, UPS, freight carriers, and other transportation providers.
- Ensure orders are accurately packed, labeled, documented, and shipped on time.
- Prepare and review shipping documentation, including international and freight paperwork.
- Coordinate carrier pickups, freight shipments, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor daily workflow and adjust priorities as business needs change.
- Resolve shipping discrepancies, delays, carrier issues, and other operational problems.
- Communicate with Sales, Customer Service, Production, and other departments regarding shipping priorities and special requirements.
- Maintain accurate shipping records and an organized shipping operation.
- Support the team directly when workload or operational needs require it.
- Identify opportunities to improve shipping processes, workflow, accuracy, and efficiency. Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on shipping experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership roles or managing a shipping department or team.
- Experience in a small to mid-sized company or a shipping environment that is not fully automated is strongly preferred.
- Candidates should be comfortable working in an operation where shipping requires manual review, individual judgment, problem-solving, and coordination, rather than relying entirely on automated warehouse systems.
- Strong experience with domestic and international shipping.
- Experience with small parcel and freight shipping.
- Hands-on experience with FedEx and UPS shipping systems.
- Experience with shipping documentation and international shipping paperwork.
- Strong computer and typing/data-entry skills.
- Experience using shipping and/or accounting software.
- Good mathematical skills and comfort working with quantities, weights, dimensions, and shipping charges.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong process-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to evaluate multiple priorities and use sound judgment to determine what needs to be handled first.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change throughout the day.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Fluent English required, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
