Job Description
Workplace mental health has moved from the margins to the boardroom. Employers worldwide are investing in wellbeing as never before, and the demand for credible, ethical, results-driven employee assistance has never been higher. That surge is EAPA's opening — and its challenge. Technology and AI are rewriting the rules. Members increasingly learn, connect, and find answers through digital platforms, automation, and AI. Associations that treat technology as strategy — not plumbing — will win the next decade. EAPA's next CEO must lead that shift. Revenue must be reimagined. Like every modern association, EAPA's future depends on diversified, sustainable, non-dues revenue: sponsorships, certification, conferences, online education, and strategic partnerships, all evaluated on real ROI. The profession is growing globally. With active development across markets such as Korea, India, Ghana, Nigeria, and Japan, EAPA's growth story is increasingly international — and the next CEO will help write it. Advocacy is an opportunity. There is real room to elevate the EA profession with policymakers and to advocate for EAPs at the federal level. EAPA needs a CEO who can build that voice. The next Chief Executive will operate squarely at the intersection of mission and enterprise — protecting member trust while modernizing the organization that serves them.
WHAT YOU WILL LEAD
The role carries seven core mandates, each tied to how the Board will measure success:
MANDATE WHAT THE ROLE DEMANDS 1.
Direct the Association Set and execute strategy across operations, education, member services, and the Annual EAPA Institute & EXPO. Keep EAPA's digital and operational infrastructure responsive — and ensure every member inquiry, question, and concern is heard and answered. 2. Grow Global Visibility & Standing Serve as EAPA's chief ambassador. Strengthen brand, reputation, and media presence; speak on the world's stages; and deepen strategic alliances that expand EAPA's influence across the 5+ countries it already touches. 3. Steward & Grow the Finances Own the budget, reserves, and investment policy. Diversify non-dues revenue — sponsorships, certification, conferences, online education, and partnerships — and make data- and ROI-driven decisions. Be willing to roll up your sleeves, be creative, and bring in dollars. 4. Build Talent & Culture Lead, motivate, and grow a high-performing team. Maintain accountability while sustaining a healthy culture, and develop the next generation of leaders. 5. Lead Partnerships & Contracts Negotiate, sign, and manage every major agreement — conference, certification, member services, finance, and legal. Cultivate sponsors and industry partners, and advocate for the EA profession at the federal level. 6. Partner with the Board & Governance Operate effectively within association governance — supporting the Board, Executive Committee, and the three-year Board cycle — while maintaining clear operational leadership boundaries and communicating change with confidence. 7. Champion Committees & Volunteers Support and energize EAPA's committees, task forces, and panels — including the EACC and the Meetings, Development, Marketing, Strategic Planning, International, and Membership efforts etc. that power the association.
WHO YOU ARE
The most effective association CEOs today are rarely administrators. They are hybrids — executive, strategist, relationship builder, change leader, and mission advocate.
The ideal candidate is:
A strategic visionary. You see beyond day-to-day operations, read industry, technology, and economic trends, and balance mission fulfillment with financial sustainability. A business builder and financial steward. You are fluent in budgets, cash flow, reserves, audits, and compliance; you think entrepreneurially about growth; and you are willing to roll up your sleeves and bring in dollars. An association and governance professional. You understand how associations — not corporations — are governed, and you manage board and volunteer dynamics while holding clear operational boundaries. A member-centered, relationship-driven leader. You treat members as both stakeholders and customers, and you are a gifted networker, ambassador, and builder of sponsorships and strategic alliances. Experience advocating to the federal government on behalf of EAPs is a strong asset. A change leader with a technology and innovation mindset. You modernize operations, culture, and programming without alienating members or staff, and you understand how AI, digital platforms, CRM, automation, and data analytics reshape associations. A compelling communicator with political and emotional intelligence. You simplify the complex and inspire confidence; you navigate competing interests, volunteer politics, and legacy traditions with tact, patience, and credibility; and you are a strong public speaker and writer. A mission-driven leader of integrity. You genuinely believe in EAPA's purpose and members, and you model transparency, ethical leadership, and stewardship in everything you do. To Apply Qualified candidates are invited to submit a cover letter, resume or CV, and a brief leadership statement to eap700@comcast.net. Financial leadership experience — budgets, reserves, audits, and compliance. Comfort with technology, AI, and digital transformation as strategic tools. Exceptional public speaking and written communication. Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. CAE and/or CEAP® credential a strong plus; genuine commitment to the EA field is desirable. Federal advocacy / government relations experience and global, cross-cultural leadership are valued assets.
