Our client is a leading distributor serving the North American electrification market, including utility transmission and distribution, renewable energy, data centers, and critical infrastructure. The company operates a high-volume, working-capital-intensive business with significant inventory investments, a global supplier network, and complex customer delivery requirements. The Chief Operating Officer will lead the operational engine of the organization, overseeing supply chain, warehousing and distribution, logistics and transportation, project management, and quality. While these functions are performing effectively today, the organization is seeking a proven operator to integrate them into a cohesive, measurable, and scalable operating model. This is both a transformation and execution role. The successful candidate will build the systems, processes, and accountability structure necessary to support continued growth while creating a disciplined operating environment driven by data, performance metrics, and continuous improvement. Key ResponsibilitiesIntegrate and Centralize Operations
  • Unify supply chain, warehousing and distribution, logistics and transportation, project management, and quality into a coordinated operating function with shared metrics and accountability.
  • Establish project management as a centralized discipline with standardized execution processes and governance.
  • Consolidate logistics and transportation management, including inbound and outbound freight, carrier relationships, and rate management, into a centralized function accountable for cost, service, and performance. Drive Operational Excellence
  • Define and manage key operational metrics including fill rate, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, warehouse productivity, freight costs, throughput, and quality performance.
  • Partner closely with Finance to ensure operational decisions align with profitability objectives and overall business performance.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies impacting margins, including unnecessary freight costs, excess handling, inventory imbalances, and process redundancies. Strengthen Supply Chain Performance
  • Improve visibility across the international supply chain, from production through delivery, to enhance planning and customer service.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with global sourcing, transportation, tariffs, trade regulations, and supply disruptions.
  • Optimize inventory deployment, distribution center utilization, and operational capacity to support growth efficiently. Lead Digital Transformation and Continuous Improvement
  • Drive adoption and effective use of ERP, CRM, and business intelligence platforms to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Champion process automation and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, visibility, and scalability.
  • Partner with technology teams to prioritize systems and tools that improve operational performance. Build Organizational Capability
  • Develop, coach, and hold accountable operational leaders across all functions.
  • Assess talent and build succession plans to support long-term growth.
  • Establish a disciplined operating cadence that drives accountability, communication, and execution across the organization. Qualifications
  • 15+ years of progressive senior leadership experience in operations, supply chain, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or related disciplines.
  • Experience within industrial distribution, building products, electrical products, infrastructure, or similarly complex physical-product environments strongly preferred.
  • Proven success consolidating and optimizing dispersed operational functions into a disciplined, high-performing organization.
  • Strong understanding of cost management, margin improvement, and operational impact on financial performance.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging ERP, CRM, and business intelligence systems to drive operational decision-making.
  • Expertise in global supply chains, international sourcing, transportation, trade compliance, tariffs, and logistics management.
  • Experience operating within organizations focused on professionalization, scalability, and enhanced reporting rigor.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership, customers, suppliers, and boards of directors.
  • High emotional intelligence and demonstrated success leading organizational change through collaboration and influence.
Success in This Role Within the first year, the successful candidate will have centralized key operational functions, established a trusted operating review process driven by meaningful performance metrics, improved service and cost performance, and built an organization capable of supporting continued growth and scalability. Success will be measured by results, accountability, operational discipline, and the ability to create sustainable processes that reduce dependence on individual heroics and increase organizational effectiveness.
