Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CAO provides strategic leadership to advance the organization's mission, long-term sustainability, and community impact. This position leads agency-wide strategic planning and organizational advancement while ensuring CFPA remains responsive to emerging needs, opportunities, and partnerships that strengthen its future. The Chief Advancement Officer works collaboratively with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to develop, implement, and evaluate the agency's strategic priorities. This position aligns organizational goals across departments, monitors progress toward key initiatives, and uses data to measure outcomes, evaluate success, and drive continuous improvement. The CAO identifies opportunities for innovation, organizational growth, and strategic partnerships while helping position CFPA as a recognized leader in victim services and organizational excellence. As part of this work, the CAO provides executive oversight and strategic direction for the organization's marketing and communications and philanthropy functions, ensuring these efforts support the agency's broader strategic objectives. The position serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO on organizational messaging, crisis communications, brand reputation, and agency advancement. While the CAO will cultivate relationships with community partners, donors, foundations, and public officials, the primary focus of the role is strengthening the organization's strategic direction, internal alignment, and long-term capacity to fulfill its mission. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Advancement Officer is expected to actively foster and protect the exceptional culture that defines CFPA. The successful candidate will lead with integrity, humility, and transparency while promoting a workplace built on trust, collaboration, mutual respect, accountability, support, and hope. This individual must value teamwork, communicate openly, build meaningful relationships across departments, and contribute to an environment where employees feel empowered, supported, and united around a common mission. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, strategic, and forward-thinking leader who thrives on solving complex organizational challenges and turning vision into measurable results. This individual possesses exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with experience in strategic planning, organizational development, marketing and communications, philanthropy, and nonprofit leadership. The successful candidate demonstrates sound judgment, emotional intelligence, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a passion for advancing CFPA's mission through thoughtful, data-informed leadership. A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, nonprofit management, business administration, organizational leadership, marketing, or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including supervision of senior-level staff and cross-functional teams. Experience in nonprofit leadership, organizational strategy, strategic communications, fundraising, and change management is strongly preferred. At CFPA, we believe everyone deserves peace, every day, everywhere, any time, at home, in the workplace, at school, and throughout the community. A pioneer in providing services to victims of violence, CFPA has grown from a single rape crisis hotline established in 1975 into a highly respected statewide leader working to end abuse and break the cycle of generational violence. CFPA is the only agency in Illinois that provides Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, Human Trafficking, Adult Protective Services, and Prevention Education under one roof. CFPA operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and all victim services are provided free of charge and confidentially. CFPA is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex (including transgender status, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age, or on an individual with a disability or class of individuals with disabilities in its policies or procedures.
