Job Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, a nationally recognized and award-winning parks department, is seeking an Administrative Office Intern with our Southern Recreation and Leisure Services Division. Internship Overview This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive, hands-on administrative experience within a dynamic public service environment. The intern will gain exposure to division-wide operations, including program management, budgeting, data analysis, and strategic planning. A key component of the internship is the complet ion of a capstone project that contributes to the division's operational effectiveness and long-term goals. Duties and Responsibilities Lead and manage an assigned administrative capstone project from concept through completion Analyze participation, financial, and operational data to identify trends and insights Attend division leadership meetings and document key discussions and action items Develop professional written materials, reports, and executive summaries Support budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning initiatives Maintain organized digital project files and documentation Collaborate with Facility Directors, Program Managers, and administrative staff across the division Learning Activities Participation in leadership and operational meetings Hands-on data analysis and reporting assignments Exposure to budgeting and financial tracking processes Cross-functional collaboration with recreation and administrative teams Development and presentation of capstone project to leadership Skills Gained Professional communication and executive-level writing Data analysis and reporting Project management and organizational skills Strategic thinking and problem-solving Public sector administration and operations knowledge Presentation and stakeholder engagement skills Preferred Academic Background Candidates should be pursuing or recently completed coursework in: Business Administration Public Administration Communications Parks and Recreation Management Marketing Data Analytics or a related field Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (flexible schedule may be available by agreement) May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
