Job Description

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland is dedicated to ensuring that all young people, especially those who need us most, have access to a safe, supportive, and engaging Club Experience during out-of-school hours. As an affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the organization is committed to helping youth achieve academic success, develop good character and citizenship, and lead healthy, productive lives. The Chief Operating Officer provides executive leadership and operational oversight for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland, ensuring high-quality programming, safe and welcoming environments, and effective systems that support youth outcomes across multiple sites and counties. Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership team, the COO translates strategic priorities into operational plans, strengthens organizational infrastructure, and ensures consistent excellence in Club operations, staff performance, and community engagement. This role plays a critical leadership function in guiding multi-site operations, supporting staff development, ensuring fiscal and programmatic accountability, and fostering collaboration across departments to advance the mission of the organization. Organizational Leadership and Strategy Partner with the Chief Executive Officer to implement the strategic vision and organizational goals across all Club locations. Serve as a senior leader responsible for aligning daily operations with long-term strategic priorities and youth development outcomes. Provide leadership that promotes accountability, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement. Operations and Program Oversight Oversee day-to-day operations of Club sites, school-based programs, and related services across Southern Maryland. Ensure that programs are delivered with fidelity to Boys & Girls Clubs of America standards and reflect best practices in youth development. Evaluate program performance using participation data and outcome measures, and recommend adjustments to enhance effectiveness and impact. Staff Leadership and Performance Management Lead, mentor, and support regional and site-level leadership to ensure strong operational performance and staff engagement. Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, evaluation, and professional development of staff in collaboration with Human Resources. Support succession planning and leadership development to strengthen organizational capacity and sustainability. Financial and Administrative Oversight Collaborate with the CEO and finance leadership in the development and monitoring of the organizational budget. Monitor expenditures and operational performance to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with approved budgets and funding requirements. Support grant compliance, reporting, and operational documentation as needed. Facilities, Safety, and Risk Management Ensure that Club facilities, equipment, and vehicles are safe, well maintained, and supportive of high-quality programming. Oversee organizational safety practices, policies, and emergency procedures to protect youth, staff, and volunteers. Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and preparedness across all locations. Community and Board Engagement Represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland in community settings, partnerships, and collaborative initiatives. Support the CEO in providing timely operational updates and data to the Board of Directors and assigned committees. Foster strong relationships with families, schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders across the region. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in nonprofit management, education, public administration, or a related field. Minimum of 8 to 1o years of progressive leadership experience in youth development, nonprofit operations, or a multi-site human services organization. Demonstrated experience managing complex operations, staff teams, and organizational systems in a growth-oriented environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of youth development principles and out-of-school time programming. Proven leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, lead through change, and make sound operational decisions. Ability to build effective working relationships with staff, Board members, community partners, and funders. Commitment to the mission and values of Boys & Girls Clubs and a passion for serving youth and families. This position operates in a professional office environment and regularly visits Club and school-based program sites. Evening and occasional weekend work is expected to support programs, events, and meetings. The role may require periodic local or regional travel. Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Pay:
$95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
