10+ years of leadership experience supporting district energy, utility, CHP, power generation, or large campus infrastructure operations. Strong knowledge of steam, chilled water, hot water, electrical distribution, and CHP systems. Experience managing plant operations, maintenance, safety, environmental compliance, and capital projects. Demonstrated financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, KPI management, and P&L responsibility. Proven ability to lead teams and effectively communicate with customers, executive leadership, and key stakeholders.
Job Summary :
We are seeking a General Manager to provide overall leadership for a district energy system serving a major university campus in Syracuse, New York. This role is responsible for safe, reliable, and efficient operations, including plant performance, maintenance, capital projects, financial management, and regulatory compliance. The General Manager will work closely with executive leadership to support long-term growth and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Provide overall leadership for district energy operations and utility infrastructure assets. Manage plant performance, reliability, safety, and environmental compliance programs. Lead maintenance planning and asset management activities. Oversee capital projects, infrastructure upgrades, and system expansion initiatives. Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics. Support business growth initiatives and strategic planning efforts. Build strong relationships with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Job Requirements :
Strong knowledge of steam, chilled water, hot water, electrical distribution, and CHP systems. Experience leading operations and maintenance teams within industrial, utility, or campus environments. Working knowledge of CMMS systems and operational KPIs. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Strong communication and leadership skills. Education /
Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred. 10+ years of experience in utility operations, power generation, district energy, or similar infrastructure environments. Previous Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Utility Manager, or General Manager experience preferred. Experience supporting university campuses, hospitals, municipalities, or CHP facilities is highly desirable.
Compensation Range per year:
$130,000 - $150,000
