Full-time (evenings/weekends as needed) Position Overview The Executive Director (ED) serves as the Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Seneca County (UWSC) and provides overall leadership, management, and administrative oversight for the organization. In partnership with the Board of Directors, the ED advances UWSC's mission and strategic priorities while strengthening its financial sustainability and community impact. As the leader of a small, community-based nonprofit, the ED balances strategic direction with hands-on management across all areas of the organization, including operations, fundraising, financial management, staff supervision, program oversight, community partnerships, and public relations. The ED serves as a steward of the United Way brand, fostering trust and credibility within UWSC and the broader community through integrity, collaboration, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to excellence. Key Responsibilities Organizational Leadership & Governance- Provide strategic leadership and organizational direction in alignment with the strategic plan and long-term vision
- Implement Board-approved policies, strategic priorities & organizational goals to ensure operational excellence and mission fulfillment
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, key committees and the operational team facilitating clear communication and effective governance
- Advise and support the board in matters of bylaw interpretation, policy formulation and implementation; coordinate board development activities; and plan meetings with comprehensive support materials Financial Management & Resource Development Manage organizational spending, establish and oversee budgets, ensure compliance with audit requirements, and proactively mitigate financial risks to safeguard long‑term sustainability.
- Lead comprehensive fundraising efforts throughout the year, including the annual giving campaign with attention on key donor segments (individual, business, organizations)
- Secure, manage, and administer grants and contracts to advance program development
- Identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen the donor base while expanding and diversifying organizational funding
- Ensure accurate, timely and compliant financial, grant, and organizational reporting in accordance with regulatory, funder, and audit standards Programs & Community Engagement
- Oversee in-house programming, strategic initiatives, community investments & cross-sector partnerships in alignment with organizational priorities and community needs.
- Monitor organizational and program outcomes and community impact
- Build & maintain relationships with community members, businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, service providers, schools, law enforcement, funders & other key stakeholders
- Represent UWSC within the community as a trusted leader Staff & Operations
- Accountable for organizational talent, building and leading high-performing teams, ensuring all team members are aligned and collaborating to achieve both organizational and individual results
- Oversee day-to-day organizational operations ensuring efficiency and consistency
- Promote a collaborative, professional, flexible, accountable & inclusive workplace culture
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contracts, grant requirements & organizational policies Communications & Public Relations
- Promote broad awareness of UWSC's mission, programs, partnerships, and community impact to enhance recognition and engagement
- Provide strategic oversight of all organizational communications, marketing, and public messaging to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with brand and mission.
- Develop comprehensive campaign materials Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of leadership and management experience
- Proven creative & critical thinking skills, sound judgement, and the ability to develop practical solutions while managing complex situations
- Strong fiscal management capabilities, including budgeting, audit processes and financial reporting
- Exceptional organizational skills encompassing decision‑making, strategic planning, resource development, and interpersonal communication
- Skilled in diverse communication methods, brand strengthening and strategic messaging
- Experience with fundraising, donor engagement and event planning
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Adept at managing multiple priorities; working independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to the mission and values of UWSC
- Possess a valid NYS Driver's License Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience
- Experience in nonprofit leadership or management
- Experience with grant-funded programs & administration
- Knowledge of substance use or suicide prevention, community mobilization, and local resources
- Knowledge of community-based organizations and collaborative partnerships
- Public speaking and training experience
- Proficiency with common office and internet-based tools Compensation & Benefits
- $55,000-$60,000 Annual Salary dependent on qualifications
- Flexible Benefits Allowance - 15% of base salary
