Job Description

Abilities in Motion is a community-based, cross-disability, consumer controlled, non-profit human services organization. The core of who we are is based upon the Independent Living Philosophy (IL Philosophy), which emphasizes consumer control and the belief that people with disabilities are the most important experts on their own needs with a crucial and invaluable perspective on how they can contribute. Position Summary:
As a member of the executive leadership team, the DPS has overall strategic and operational responsibility for all of AIM programming and services areas. The position is responsible for building a strong team, fostering an organizational culture of accountability, strengthening programs and services, and ensuring an impact is made in the communities that AIM serves. The DPS will develop a deep knowledge of each functional area's projects, program operations, and business plans. The DPS will demonstrate a consistent quality of problem-solving, communications, attention to detail and creative use of resources. The DPS will develop, coach, and retain high performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance. The DPS will provide effective and thoughtful leadership by building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization including individuals, families and community partners while continually reinforcing AIM's mission, vision, and values. Essential Functions (Primary Duties):
  • Actively participate with AIM's executive leadership team to provide overall leadership and direction to the organization by working collaboratively with the team in setting and supporting strategic direction and vision, develop and implement consistent policies and procedures, and strategic plan implementation.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the organization's programs, guiding long-term vision and direction
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and the successful execution of program plans
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of programs, ensuring they are delivered efficiently and meet their goals
  • Lead the design and development of new programs while reviewing and analyzing existing ones to shape future strategy
  • Manage and lead program staff, including recruitment, professional development, training and performance management
  • Establish performance goals, provide feedback, and create a cohesive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
  • Oversee program budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure financial efficiency and accountability
  • Implement a data-driven culture to collect, analyze, and act on data to improve program outcomes
  • Develop and manage monitoring and evaluation systems with integrated feedback loops to ensure program success
  • Manage external partner relationships and program evaluation and reporting
  • Raise the agency's profile through external communications and thought leadership
  • Stay informed about industry developments and share strategic insights with leadership
Role Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated clear programmatic vision and strong leadership
  • Experience in developing programs that align with the organization's mission and goals
  • Experience using data-driven strategies to create, track and enhance programmatic goals and strategies
  • Strong financial and grants management, interpretation, evaluation, and application skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and understand financial accountability
  • Ability to navigate challenges such as evolving funding environments
  • Demonstrated advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.
  • Ability to apply principles of leadership, analyze and interpret business information, formulate business strategies and plans, and solve problems at an advanced business level
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff performance and resolve interpersonal and operational conflicts
  • Ability to manage teams and lead strategic initiatives
Education/Relevant Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • A minimum of five to ten years of executive leadership experience

  • Demonstrates flexibility in the acceptance and completion of work assignments.

Work Schedule:
The typical week is 40 hours per week with a 30-minute unpaid meal break.
