ABOUT HISTORIC ANNAPOLIS
We are the leading nonprofit preservation and history organization in Annapolis, Maryland, responsible for stewarding 13 historic properties including National Historic Landmarks. As were deep into Americas semiquincentennial celebrations and with HAs 75th anniversary next year, and the planned reopening of the James Brice House coming too, this is an exciting time to join our team! Some travel may be required for events or community networking opportunities.
Summary:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management and organizational effectiveness of Historic Annapolis. The COO is responsible for working closely with the President and CEO in maximizing the organizations operating performance and achieving its mission and goals. Responsibilities include high-level program management of essential tasks, creating cross-departmental cooperation and effectiveness, working closely with senior staff in identifying priorities and problem solving, and ensuring sound policies and procedures in place. This role oversees the organization's senior management team and is responsible for driving operational excellence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Lead and oversee day-to-day operations across all organizational departments and functions. Provide direct leadership and support to Vice Presidents and senior management. Develop and implement operational strategies, processes, and systems that improve effectiveness, efficiency, and organizational performance. Identify and address operational risks and challenges and implement solutions proactively. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement. Partner with the President & CEO and senior management team to develop and implement organizational strategy and long-term initiatives. Prepare reports, presentations, and organizational updates as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages the Vice Presidents of Preservation, Education, Communications, Development, and Finance. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION and
EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree required in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, , Organizational Leadership, or a related field. Masters Degree and experience in nonprofit organizations, museums, cultural institutions, preservation organizations, or mission-driven organizations considered a plus. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience managing multiple departments, teams, or organizational functions. Other Qualifications Demonstrated experience leading strategic initiatives and organizational operations. Ability to lead and influence across multiple teams and functions. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilitieseffectively. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to think strategically while effectively managing day-to-day operations. Project management skills, with demonstrated ability to create and manage budgets.
