Principal Responsibilities:
Strategic & Enterprise Leadership Owns the enterprise operations strategy, aligning people, processes, systems, and controls with the Banks long-term strategic plan. Serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to institution-wide planning, capital deployment priorities, risk posture decisions, and innovation initiatives. Translates high-level strategic objectives into executable operational roadmaps with measurable outcomes. Provides informed, data-driven operational insight to the CEO and Board, elevating operations from a support function to a strategic differentiator. Operational Oversight & Infrastructure Management Leads all core operational and administrative functions, ensuring seamless execution across deposit operations, loan operations, treasury support, core systems, payments, and related back-office disciplines. Establishes and enforces operating standards, service-level expectations, and performance benchmarks designed to improve productivity and reduce operational risk. Designs, documents, and continuously refines institutional policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with regulatory requirements and safety and soundness expectations. Identifies root causes of operational inefficiencies or breakdowns and implements durable, scalable solutions. Oversees the development and maintenance of procedural manuals, system documentation, and internal reference materials to ensure knowledge continuity and audit readiness. Regulatory & Risk Governance Ensures operational activities adhere to all applicable state and federal banking regulations, audit standards, and internal risk management frameworks. Partners closely with Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Internal Audit to maintain a strong control environment and exam-ready culture. Serves as primary management liaison to the Board of Directors and Audit Committee for operational matters, delivering transparent reporting on performance, risk metrics, and remediation initiatives. Technology & Innovation Leadership Collaborates with Information Technology leadership to align system architecture with operational strategy. Chairs or actively participates in the IT Steering Committee, prioritizing technology investments and ensuring disciplined project governance. Evaluates and approves operational technology enhancements, core upgrades, and vendor-supported solutions that improve automation, data integrity, cybersecurity posture, and client experience. Maintains a forward-looking view of industry trends, fintech partnerships, and digital transformation opportunities to preserve competitive relevance within the Banks geographic footprint. Ensures optimal performance and reliability of data processing platforms and mission-critical technical services. Vendor & Third-Party Management Maintains executive-level relationships with key strategic vendors, ensuring accountability, performance standards, and cost discipline. Leads contract negotiations, service reviews, and ongoing vendor risk assessments to protect institutional interests. Drives measurable value from third-party partnerships through performance monitoring and structured review processes. Talent, Culture & Leadership Builds and develops a high-performing operations team capable of supporting growth and complexity. Identifies skill gaps and champions targeted training and leadership development initiatives. Sets the tone for professionalism, accountability, and collaboration, reinforcing the Banks core values. Fosters a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
Qualifications:
Chief Operations Officer This is not a Remote/Work From Home opportunity. What we are looking for Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations Management, or related discipline required; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred. Minimum of 12 years of progressive leadership experience in financial institution operations, including executive-level oversight responsibilities. Direct experience within a complex, large community or regional bank environment preferred. Extensive knowledge of banking operations infrastructure, core processing systems, payments ecosystems, and regulatory frameworks (state and federal). Demonstrated experience balancing operational efficiency initiatives with regulatory and risk management expectations. Strong analytical acumen with the ability to interpret performance metrics, operational data, and risk indicators to inform strategic decisions.
