Job Description
Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director/Executive Director, the Camp Manager is responsible for providing leadership to the assigned day-to-day operations and management duties of camp operations. In the absence of a Director the Camp Manager will help to serve as the leader in charge. Day-to-day operations will include associate supervision, scheduling, program supervision, facility management/maintenance, and training. The Camp Manager is responsible for assisting in leading their associate team in superior levels of member service and engagement though implementing fun, robust, and exciting camp programming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as Lead Manager in the absence of a Director. Will develop camp and associate schedules, and other administrative functions as assigned. Assists in leading and supervising program activities and special events related to camp operations. Trains and directs associates as needed within the camp operations. Evaluates associate performance and provides feedback to the AED/ED. Maintains records of associate certifications and ensures they are current and compliant with association standards. Must be able to perform all functions as those they supervise and maintain qualifications and certifications. May be required to secure other certifications/training post hire. Monitors daily operations to adhere to all state, local and Y health and safety regulations. Provides oversight of camp associates in regard to daily cleaning of surrounding areas. Conducts trainings as assigned. Supervises camp program and ensures that all best practices are followed, and progress reports are distributed as directed by the AED/ED. Fosters an environment that is positive and welcoming to program participants, members, and staff. Adheres to Y operating standards and risk management policies. Maintains high quality standards adhering to, or surpassing, association standards and care and maintenance of program facility and equipment. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. Performs all other duties as assigned. Safety and Risk Management Adhere to all Federal, State, and local safety regulations, as well as all YMCA policies and procedures related to the safety, health, and welfare of members, participants, guests, and staff. Ensure that all Tampa YMCA standards, leading practices, and policies are implemented and consistently followed, including those related to emergency procedures, child abuse prevention, and appropriate supervision. Maintain a safe and healthy environment at all times, including performing daily safety checks of program areas, equipment, and supplies. Supervises meals, snacks, restroom, and transition periods to promote a safe, orderly environment and encourage healthy habits. Conduct health checks on children for potential health concerns such as head lice, ringworm, or other communicable conditions, and reports immediately to the Program Director. Adhere to policies and procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising participants and boundaries with participants and their families. Ensure high-risk areas (e.g., restrooms, locker rooms, closets) are monitored and secured when not in use. Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and provides active, engaged supervision at all times. Follow established sign-in/sign-out procedures to ensure children are released only to authorized adults. Responds appropriately to behavioral and medical incidents, documenting and reporting as required. Adhere to risk management training requirements including child abuse prevention. Support a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where children feel secure and respected Promptly report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior, as well as policy violations, following established association procedures.Education/ Experience Required:
Must be at least 18. Must have High School Diploma or GED. A minimum of 2+ years of experience supervising camp operations preferred.Certifications/Trainings Required:
Must possess and obtain CPR/AED and First Aid within 30 days. Will be required to attend and complete training as assigned by supervisor. Flexible Schedule (days, nights and weekends)WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job including, but not limited to: The employee frequently is required to remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness. The employee frequently is required to see, observe, hear all participants, and make sound judgments and decisions. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances (in normal and loud situations), and communicate swiftly and effectively with associates, emergency personnel and members. Ability to observe all areas of the camp environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility, and hear noises and recognize victims in distress. Remain in or around designated program areas at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to to move to various locations, sit and/or stand for extended periods, including in and around elevated chair. Ability to direct and control the activities of others, to work under specific instructions, work alone and under stressful conditions. Ability to crouch and bend at the waist and knees. Ability to physically and mentally perform all needed rescues, removals (in and out of the water) and survival skills, including administering CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen effectively. Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may require availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
