Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Assistant Camp Director at YWCA Central Massachusetts Inc is responsible for supporting the Camp Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the camp. This seasonal position involves ensuring a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for all campers and staff, while fostering a positive community atmosphere. The role requires strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a commitment to the mission of the YWCA.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of camp programs and activities, ensuring they align with the YWCA's mission and values. Supervise and support camp staff, providing guidance, training, and feedback to ensure high-quality program delivery. Monitor camper safety and well-being, implementing safety protocols and responding to emergencies as needed. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, addressing inquiries and concerns in a professional manner. Collaborate with the Camp Director to manage camp logistics, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budget oversight. Foster a positive and inclusive camp environment, promoting teamwork, respect, and personal growth among campers and staff. Assist in the evaluation of camp programs and staff performance, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a camp setting or similar environment. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably within a youth-focused organization. Proven track record of organizing and implementing successful programs and activities for children and adolescents.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with campers, parents, and staff. Ability to plan, organize, and execute camp activities and events. Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle emergencies or conflicts calmly and efficiently. Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a camp environment. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and foster an inclusive environment. Proficiency in basic computer applications and record-keeping.
