About Houston ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors. By bringing many global functional groups together, the campus provides employees with the tools and capabilities needed today, and in the future, to achieve business objectives and accelerate the discovery of new resources, technologies and products. What role you will play on our team Development Planners lead the early evaluation and maturation of business and project opportunities, developing technical, execution, and economic foundations that support investment decisions. Working in environments of high technical and commercial uncertainty, they coordinate cross-functional teams to assess a broad range of concepts, support opportunity screening and concept selection, and apply analytical tools and profitability assessments to develop clear business recommendations that drive decision-making. The ideal candidate combines technical and commercial understanding, thinks strategically about business value, and is comfortable navigating complex decisions involving multiple stakeholders. They are able to assess opportunities, communicate recommendations effectively, and influence decisions that support asset and portfolio growth. This role is located in Spring, TX. What you will do Lead the acquisition and analysis of technical, commercial, and market data required to reduce uncertainty and build business cases that support development decisions at each project stage. Apply knowledge of fiscal systems, commercial frameworks, and economic drivers to evaluate development opportunities and support value-based decision making. Develop, maintain, and utilize economic models to assess opportunities, projects, and funding decisions. Clearly communicate economic results, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders and leadership. Integrate technical, commercial, and execution perspectives to screen, evaluate, and mature development concepts in environments with significant uncertainty. Identify value-enhancing opportunities, technologies, and development strategies, engaging subject matter experts as needed to maximize project and portfolio value. Collaborate across subsurface, engineering, commercial, finance, and operations teams to advance opportunities through key development milestones. Support annual business planning, portfolio management activities, and reserves reporting, including preparation of Plan & Budget (P&B) inputs. About you Skills and Qualifications B.S. or higher in Engineering discipline, MBA preferred Broad thinker and not necessarily process-driven Technical, business, and multifunctional team leadership experience Experience in Leadership Decision Framing and Support is essential, e.g. experience working with decision makers to create clarity around strategic objectives, value definitions, decision road maps, and decision risk timelines Experience and comfort in leading teams through opportunity evaluations with significant uncertainty is essential Capability in risk and uncertainty identification and quantification including likelihood Excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate to management strategic tradeoffs that show value, exposure, and lost opportunity in the lens of multiple scenarios Broad oil and gas industry experience spanning one or more of the following areas: engineering, subsurface, operations, commercial, or asset development Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of how value is created and captured within the oil and gas industry Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and business issues into clear, actionable insights Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including examples of influencing outcomes, driving initiatives, or leading teams and projects, regardless of formal leadership title Preferred Qualifications / Experience 7-10+ years of relevant experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams to bring together technical and business knowledge to support large-scale project decisions High level of personal and professional integrity Strong demonstrated business acumen, ability to lead strategic assessments and scenario-based analysis for comparing alternatives, with emphasis on profitability analysis Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills; able to lead others in a diverse work team Strong strategic thinking, leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly and concisely advocate a course of action to decision makers Experience framing and evaluating business opportunities, including economic analysis, value optimization, risk assessment, trade-off analysis, and investment decision-making Knowledge of and experience supporting early-stage project development, including opportunity maturation, concept evaluation, and development planning activities Willing and able to travel (domestic and international) as required Your benefits An ExxonMobil career is one designed to last.
