Full Job Description General Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the VP & Chief Clinical Officer, the Director, Tissue Recovery leads and guides the Tissue Recovery staff and Tissue Program staff towards accomplishing the organization's mission and goals by providing oversight of daily tissue recovery operations. The Director, Tissue Recovery serves as the clinical expert for donor suitability, tissue recovery, processor criteria, medical examiner/funeral home relationships, supply needs, quality metrics, and tissue training for the organization. The Director, Tissue Recovery is responsible for creating an annual budget, forecasting tissue projections and revenue, and maintaining fiscal responsibility within the department. In addition, the Director, Tissue Recovery is responsible for negotiating and adherence to processor agreements which includes monthly, quarterly, and annual caps. The Director, Tissue Recovery is accountable for the tissue recovery staff's adherence to all regulatory and accrediting agency standards, including, but not limited to CMS, FDA and AATB, as well as all internal organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Director, Tissue Recovery is responsible for strategic planning as it relates to departmental and tissue program growth and investigating business opportunities that lead to an increase in tissue donation and/or improvement in clinical outcomes. Position requires travel to Infinite Legacy regional offices.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field is required. Master's degree preferred. At least 5 years of related experience required with demonstrated knowledge in tissue screening, authorization, and/or recovery. Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience. Current or tissue banking specialist (CTBS) certification within 2 years of hire.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Ensures that the Tissue Recovery department is adequately staffed and trained to provide appropriate and efficient response to referrals, accurate evaluation of potential donors and timely and efficient recovery of tissues. Promotes research and technology advances in the organization by staying current with trends in the industry, identifying opportunities, and participating in research design. At the request of Human Resources, participates in the screening and hiring process of new employees. Responsible for oversight of final approval of all timesheets, PTO, expense reports and corrects any discrepancies prior to forwarding to Finance. Manages and leads staff to increase tissue donation volume and grafts per donor and overall quality of recoveries, in conjunction with internal department leaders and external partners Oversees the daily workflow of the department and the Administrator on Call program Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations with designated departmental leaders. In collaboration with HR and department leaders, manages discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Promotes a departmental culture of accountability, teamwork, and excellence.Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively. Good problem-solving and creative thinking skills, and well-developed personal stress management skills. Demonstrated leadership skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be certified as a tissue banking specialist (CTBS) and maintain that certification in good standing within 2 years of hire Must remain proficient in all regulatory and accrediting agency standards and policies. Ability to travel to regional offices.Duties/Responsibilities:
Serves as a liaison to the organization's tissue processing partners, ensuring compliance with processor specific policies and procedures. Makes recommendations to the VP and Chief Clinical Officerregarding contract matters. Maintains effective relationships with tissue processors and attends meetings, conference/video calls as required. Works with the Hospital Services, Family Services, and Donor Services teams to identify opportunities for increased donation through education and presentation of common integrated message. This includes providing both public and professional in-services or education when needed. Ensures the ongoing clinical competence and compliance of the staff through a variety of methods including ongoing education, processor feed-back reports, case reviews/debriefs, self-paced learning modules, case participation, wet-lab, TrainCaster, focused learning and training activities. Develops and manages the departmental budget. Routinely engages in processes to create opportunities and implement methods to reduce the costs of tissue recovery services. Approves the departmental review of variance reports and meets with the finance department to track and trend average standard acquisition fees. In collaboration with Quality Systems, ensures timely response to SOP modifications and compliance, CAPA, ongoing competencies and quality improvement projects. In conjunction with the Education department, manages the training efforts and training compliance timelines for the TR Department. This includes the development and implementation of department-specific training in conjunction with ancillary partners such as processors, vendors, funeral homes, OCME, transport companies, transplant centers and/or hospital partners. In collaboration with the Quality, Education, Facilities, Donor Services and Family Services leadership, participates in the identification, planning, implementation, and process confirmation of improvement opportunities. Participates as a member of Leadership, including attendance at required meetings, retreats, planning sessions and other meetings as necessary. Maintains effective and professional working relationships with departmental leaders, as well as personnel involved in the donation process. Participates on regional and national committees as appropriate. Attends an AATB, EBAA, meeting or workshop at least once every year. Keeps knowledge current through participation in AATB, EBNA, etc. Serves as emergency contact for applicable departments, including sick calls,emergencies, and disaster recovery planning. During times of decreased staffing/emergency, may be required to fill schedule holes and/or timeframes necessary. Participates as a member of the Leadership Team demonstrating Infinite Legacy core values and attending meetings such as team meetings, retreats, planning sessions, etc. Serves as a tissue administrator on-call (TAOC).Other duties as assigned.
