- 26 per hour We are seeking an experienced Dispatch & Load Planning Coordinator to support our transportation operations during a temporary 4-6 week assignment.
This role is responsible for daily dispatch planning, load board management, driver communication, route optimization, and shipment tracking to ensure efficient and reliable service. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can quickly solve operational challenges, and has experience working within Southern California drayage, intermodal, or trucking operations. Key Responsibilities Daily Dispatch Planning Create and manage dispatch schedules based on driver availability, customer status, customer commitments, and appointment windows. Develop and optimize routes using the Route4Me platform. Load Board Management Search for, evaluate, and book profitable loads through platforms such as Truckstop.com and DAT to supplement port work and maximize driver productivity. Strategically assign loads and routes to minimize wait times, empty miles, and overtime while maximizing asset utilization and revenue per truck. Continuously monitor drivers while in transit and at delivery locations. 1 Operational Coordination Proactively address delays, equipment issues, road congestion, and driver concerns throughout the day. Assist in coordinating responses when mechanical issues arise. Maintain active communication with drivers, providing real-time instructions, updates, and guidance to keep operations running smoothly. Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), port portals, and internal tools to track shipments, update statuses, and maintain accurate records. Ensure driver schedules comply with DOT hours-of-service regulations and company safety policies. Collaborate with internal teams to provide shipment updates and resolve service-related issues affecting customers. Review and process completed loads for billing by verifying driver paperwork, bills of lading (BOLs), proof of delivery (PODs), and container/trip documentation. Qualifications 3-5+ years of dispatch experience within drayage, intermodal, or trucking operations in Southern California strongly preferred. Knowledge of telematics tracking systems, including vehicle location, movement, and performance monitoring. Proficiency with Truckstop.com, DAT, and other load board platforms. Experience dispatching refrigerated vehicles. Strong understanding of DOT compliance, driver hours-of-service requirements, and dispatch procedures. Excellent communication, prioritization, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, transportation management systems (TMS), and online freight tools. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Schedule & Work Environment On-site position based in Commerce, California. Monday through Friday, full-time. Tentative schedule is subject to operational needs and requires availability until all drivers have completed their routes. 2
