Compensation is based on verified EMS Dispatch experience, certification, and demonstrated competency within a communications center environment. Hourly pay range is $22.00 to $27.00 and up depending on years of experience. 8 and 10 hour shifts available. About the Role Our communications center manages a high volume interfacility transport system serving multiple healthcare facilities across Los Angeles County. Dispatchers are responsible for real time unit deployment, crew accountability, hospital communication, and operational decision making. This position requires strong system awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple active units simultaneously while maintaining accurate documentation. Dispatchers are expected to operate independently after orientation and demonstrate competency in call prioritization, CAD navigation, and resource allocation. Dispatcher Role Description (Experienced IFT Dispatchers) Manage interfacility transport operations from request through completion Assign ambulance units based on patient acuity, level of service, crew availability, and operational priorities Maintain real-time awareness of unit status and ensure all crews are accounted for at all times Proactively manage delays and communicate updates to hospitals and referring facilities Communicate clearly and professionally with field crews and healthcare partners Utilize CAD and dispatch systems efficiently to support smooth operations Accurately document transport activity and operational decisions Maintain high customer service standards while managing operational demands Serve as an operational decision-maker within the communications center
REQUIREMENTS
Ensuring that all transport requests are picked up in a timely manner (using either phone or computer) Ensuring all crews are accounted for at all times Ensuring that callers are notified of any delays in transports. Ability to demonstrate responsibility by receiving, assimilating, and recording information accurately into our system and respond appropriately Efficiently dispatching of transport requests and relaying appropriate information to field crews Knowledge of geography of service area Operates computers, software, and multi-line phone system. Ensures the provision of optimal transportation services to patients and referring agencies. Flexible as to his/her work schedule and able to work varying shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Must have EMS dispatch experience and
  • National and/or State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) determined by appropriate state requirements preferred.
  • EMD certification (or ability to get it) will be required.
  • Valid California Drivers' license or DMV Identification Card
  • High School Diploma, GED, or California Certificate of Proficiency
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge of Medical Terminology Prior Dispatch, EMT, Paramedic or RN experience preferred. Proficiency in spelling and writing English. Ability to deal with high stress situations. Working knowledge and proficiency of electronic communication. Able to quickly manage and transition between various tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
