Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut. CHH offers personalized attention from an expert team of caregivers and physicians that utilize advanced technology and clinical partnerships in a convenient, safe and comfortable patient environment. Job Summary Public Safety Dispatchers provide excellent customer service, demeanor, and critical thinking skills when managing phone calls and other requests from patients, visitors and colleagues. Follow established policies and procedures when routing calls, using computer systems, electronic or paper directories, public address systems, paging, and building monitoring systems. Coordinate security, medical and/or other safety responses for the organization using various radios, access control systems, cameras, panic buttons, alarm monitoring, life safety systems, among others.
  • Dispatches the appropriate Public Safety resources during responses to security events, emergencies or disasters. Prioritizes incoming requests.
  • Utilizes all relevant tools, resources, communication equipment, consoles, and other technology.
  • React and perform under emergency situations, exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with instructions and procedures.
  • Documents and records all essential information and data as required in any paper or electronic systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One (1) year of relevant experience in public safety, emergency medical services, fire dispatching required. Related volunteer or degree programs may be substituted for experience
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English required
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience preferred
  • (1) year Public Service Dispatcher/Call Center or Public Dispatch experience preferred
  • Multilingual preferred
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with the HHC Community including callers, patients, visitors, colleagues, physicians and others.
  • Remain calm and organized under stressful and rapidly changing work conditions. Requires the ability to take appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances and problems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practice of healthcare, emergency management, safety, security, and public safety.
  • Capability to independently analyze and solve a variety of difficult situations, problem events, emergencies.
  • Skills in computers, general technology and electronic public safety and emergency management tools, resources and equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends during security events, emergency or disasters.
