The Opportunity Matus has launched a brand-new DOD & Government Freight division — and it's already real, not hypothetical. We're SDDC-approved, active on TEAMS/GFM, and delivered our first DOD loads this past August. That early run also showed us exactly why this role needs to exist: doing it without a dedicated expert is hard to do well. We're looking for a dispatcher who has already worked DOD or government freight, brings a nationwide network of reliable, properly-vetted carriers, and can turn that early momentum into a disciplined, consistently-winning operation — with a real path to grow this into a multi-million dollar line of business for Matus. This is a ground-floor opportunity in the fullest sense: you're not staffing a function that already runs itself, you're the person who makes it run right. — monitoring tender opportunities, submitting competitive Spot Bids, and keeping shipment documentation current. Build and manage a nationwide network of vetted, reliable carriers and owner-operators across box truck, flatbed, lowboy, and RGN equipment — the stronger this network, the more competitively we can bid. Dispatch every load — LTL and FTL — matching cargo to the right equipment and carrier based on dimensions, weight, and securement needs. Secure oversize/overweight permits, plan routing, and coordinate pilot/escort vehicles for loads that require them. Manage dispatch documentation — rate confirmations, bills of lading, proof of delivery, certificates of insurance, and carrier compliance files. Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers in transit, resolving breakdowns, delays, and routing issues quickly and calmly. Coordinate pickup and delivery windows with the military bases and installations we work with. Program Growth & Compliance Grow Matus's DOD/government freight book of business — turning our first loads into consistent, scalable volume across shippers, bases, and lanes. Ensure every carrier and driver is properly vetted to DoD standards. No load boards. No double-brokering — direct, accountable relationships only. Keep Matus's SCAC code, DoD performance bond, and cargo insurance current, and maintain strong standing in SDDC's Carrier Performance program (CPEP/CPM). Keep FMCSA safety scores within DoD-required thresholds and flag anything that could put Matus's TSP status at risk. Uphold DoD security, confidentiality, and handling protocols for protected and sensitive commodities. Keep John Bode updated on shipment status, pipeline progress, and growth opportunities. Build the SOPs, carrier-vetting criteria, and documentation standards for this division from the ground up. What We're Looking For Required 5+ years of dispatch/freight brokerage experience, with direct, hands-on, verifiable work moving freight for the Department of Defense or another government/military agency. An existing, active, nationwide network of vetted carriers and owner-operators across box truck, flatbed, lowboy, and RGN equipment, ready to activate immediately — this directly determines how competitively we can bid. Deep familiarity with DoD carrier-vetting standards — comfortable working without load boards or double-brokers, using only direct, accountable carrier relationships. Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, cargo securement standards, and state-by-state oversize/overweight permitting processes. Working knowledge of SCAC codes, DoD performance bonds, and DoD cargo insurance requirements — enough to help keep Matus's existing TSP standing in good order. Comfortable being the first call when something goes wrong — clear-headed and solutions-focused under pressure. High personal discipline, integrity, and accountability; able to operate with real autonomy growing a new division. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Able to pass a background check and drug screening as required for government- and DOD-related freight assignments. Preferred Existing relationships with SDDC contracting offices, shipping activities, or DOD prime/subcontractors that could accelerate Matus's growth and recognition. Experience working with DoD on both domestic and international shipments. Bilingual English/Spanish. Experience standing up or scaling a dispatch function, brokerage, or new revenue line.
