Part-time Job Summary:
The Patient Transport Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and dispatching transport staff to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and materials throughout the hospital. This role is critical in maintaining patient flow and supporting clinical operations by prioritizing transport requests and communicating effectively with clinical and transport teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive, prioritize, and dispatch patient transport requests using hospital dispatch software or communication systems. Monitor transport staff availability and assign tasks based on urgency, location, and workload. Communicate with nursing units, clinical departments, and transporters to coordinate patient movement. Track and document transport activities, delays, and completion times for reporting and quality assurance. Respond to urgent and STAT transport requests promptly and efficiently. Maintain real-time awareness of hospital operations to anticipate and resolve transport bottlenecks. Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and patient confidentiality protocols. Assist in training new dispatchers or transport staff as needed. Provide excellent customer service to internal departments and patients.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred. Experience with dispatching, logistics, or scheduling systems is a plus. Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure. Familiarity with medical terminology is an advantage.
Working Conditions:
Office-based within the hospital environment. May require rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Frequent use of computers, phones, and hospital communication systems.
