Job Description
Job Overview As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety by efficiently managing emergency calls and coordinating responses from law enforcement, fire, and medical services. This position requires quick thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. You will be responsible for assessing situations, prioritizing calls, and providing essential information to first responders. Duties Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance. Transcribe information accurately while maintaining a clear line of communication with callers. Analyze situations to determine the appropriate response and dispatch resources accordingly. Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to provide accurate location data to responders. Negotiate with callers to gather essential information while ensuring their safety. Maintain detailed logs of all communications and actions taken during each incident. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other emergency services to facilitate effective responses. Manage conflict situations calmly and professionally, ensuring the safety of all parties involved. Beneficial Skills Strong conflict management skills to handle high-stress situations effectively. Proficiency in GIS technology for accurate location tracking and mapping. Knowledge of first aid principles to provide guidance during emergencies. Ability to type quickly and accurately while engaging with callers. Familiarity with law enforcement protocols and procedures is beneficial. Excellent analytical skills to assess situations rapidly and make informed decisions. Strong negotiation skills to communicate effectively with distressed individuals. Experience in phone triage techniques to prioritize calls based on urgency. This role is essential for maintaining community safety, requiring dedication, resilience, and a commitment to serving others in their time of need.
