Job Description

Description:
The Transportation Dispatcher provides support within the transportation services area with specific responsibilities that include but are not limited to scheduling of regular and special education bus drivers, coordinating the assignments of regularly scheduled routes, special events, field trips and monitoring bus drivers' traffic and locations.

Transportation Manager Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three years experience as a school bus driver. Applicants must possess a valid Michigan driver's license as well as an infraction free driving record. Qualified candidates must have, or be willing to acquire, a Michigan CDL Group B driver's license with applicable endorsements. Must be able to comply with all standards set forth by the Department of Transportation, including successful completion of annual physicals and pre-employment/random drug screens. Knowledge of transportation department, district schools, boundaries and routes Demonstrated patience, level temperament and exemplary decision making abilities as well as the ability to provide positive student support. Demonstrated ability to promote positive connections between school and community, respectful interactions with students, professionalism, trustworthiness, dependability and punctuality. Strong organizational skills, excellent customer service skills and strong problem solving skills Must be detail oriented, accurate and possess the ability work independently with little direction. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and perform duties in a fast paced environment. Proven ability to make sound decisions on a regular basis and know when to bring issues, questions and concerns to management. Ability to use various forms of technology including routing software, Microsoft Office and email. Proficiency testing will be required. Demonstrated dependability and regular attendance.
Responsibilities:
Obtain and keep a current Michigan CDL Group B driver's license with appropriate endorsements. Be current on the Michigan Vehicle Code and school bus policies relating to public transportation. Attend training classes at the direction of the Transportation Manager or designee. Perform daily responsibilities in accordance with established Transportation Department Rules and Regulations as well as collectively bargained agreements. Dispatch bus drivers and assigned substitute driver as needed ensuring that all routes are covered for the safe transportation of UCS students. Assist in the assignment of permanent and temporary routes and route adjustment. Monitor and communicate open routes, route vacancies and route postings. Informs school personnel and parents of practices (e.g. rules, regulations, laws, etc.) for the purpose of providing information for their follow-up action. Responds to inquiries from students, parents and/or staff in a timely and customer service focused manner (e.g. stop locations, schedule, state regulated policies, etc.) for the purpose of providing the necessary information regarding transportation services. Monitoring district absence reporting system for daily route coverage needs. Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents files and records (e.g. student data, route changes, routing procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements. Processes a variety of materials (e.g. field trip requests, route changes, etc.) for the purpose of updating and distributing information, authorizing action and/or complying with mandated requirements.
