Job Description
The Laurel School District is seeking qualified applicants for part time (0.75), split shift, Dispatcher. This is a Level IV, with a current starting wage of $17.00 per hour. The Dispatcher performs work of a specific nature under general supervision. The nature of the work requires adherence to policies, procedures and regulations. Independent judgment and decision-making are required in matters not having established policies, procedures and regulations. The incumbent interfaces with department staff, school staff, parents, and public entities. The incumbents do not have supervisory responsibilities, but do assist in operational management and assist in providing leadership and direction to Bus Drivers. This is a safety sensitive job, and therefore are required to pre-employment drug testing, and random drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Maintains an up-to-date listing of school buses and assigned drivers and bus aides. Assures ready access to an up-to-date route sheet for each scheduled route. Maintains an accurate daily attendance roster of drivers and aides. Maintains cordial working relationships with assigned drivers and aides. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of all facets of driver and bus aides' duties as outline in state and District regulations. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge or roads and streets in the district's operating area. Ensures that drivers and aides clock their times accurately and that any write-in time is accurately reflected on the daily report. Operate two-way radio base stations; operate paging system as required. Communicate with department employees, dispatching to needed locations to respond to routine requests or emergency situations. Monitor special equipment as assigned and maintain appropriate records. Maintain or assist in maintaining assigned files and records; receive and process information according to established guidelines and procedures. Communicate with outside organizations, businesses, government organizations, local police and others as appropriate. Communicate with parents, supervisors, school administrators and department employees; receive requests, questions, concerns and suggestions and provide routine information and assistance or route to appropriate personnel. Maintain current knowledge of routes and locations to assure timely services and accurate information. Works in tandem with school bus drivers to ensure students are transported safely and securely to and from school. Participate in reporting behavior issues and other concerns to supervisor as needed. Assists in completing all required written reports on a daily basis. Provides customer service to parents and guardians, answers questions, and explains District rules. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and LPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. Enthusiastically promotes the district's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and LPS information. At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position. Assists in maintaining a clean, neat, orderly, and attractive work environment. Familiarity with materials and equipment used within the scope of assigned responsibilities. Attends relevant meetings and trainings as assigned. Only minimum duties are listed. Other functions may be required as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: High School Diploma/GED; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. Must possess a and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the standards in place by the district. Must possess experience performing duties as a bus driver, preferred but not required. Demonstrate the ability to adhere to establish safety practices regarding the use of chemical and equipment. Must be able to comply with District, state, and national regulations as they relate to vehicle safety. Demonstrate the ability to follow a set routine and must demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and schedules. Must demonstrate knowledge of bus routes and surrounding geographic area for efficient routing. Must be able to work with accuracy with attention to detail. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, parents, and general public. Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively manage time and responsibilities.
