POSITION DESCRIPTION
Functions under the direction of the SCCC Public Safety shift supervisor, typically Captain or Lieutenant. Incumbents are given directions regarding assignments, briefing on current problems at the beginning of the shift and instruction on college-wide communication messages effecting operations. Controls base, fixed or mobile communication systems. Maintains status and control over all mobile radio units in service. Monitors all incoming two-way radio calls and communicates the department messages. Reports emergency situations to supervisory personnel, including the inability to establish communications with a mobile unit. Operates computers and VCAD software to track all officer activity and calls. Operates college telephone, closed-circuit television; electronic security systems (intrusion) and RAVE safety app. Communicates with county fire-rescue and police dispatchers Manages the VCAD blotters and records information about the calls given from officers. Receives calls from the public and college and communicates with supervisors on developing problems. Activates the college emergency alert system with college networking. Activates and maintains communication with plant operations staff; PSEG and National Grid. Refers non-emergency calls to the college offices and college operators. Good knowledge of the geography of the County road network; ability to learn the methods and practices of operating two-way radio equipment; ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies; ability to maintain a variety of routine clerical records; ability to transmit messages with good diction and a clear speaking voice; ability to interpret written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. May include evening and weekend shift.
HIRING SALARY
$18.00 per hour 18.75 hours per week
