An Emergency Management Director plans and directs disaster response or crisis management activities, primarily for state and local governments. Directs preparation of emergency plans and disaster preparedness training. Surveys community resources available for emergencies, provides outreach to community groups and businesses on disaster and/or emergency response plans and procedures.
Emergency Management Deputy Director The Covington County Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Emergency Management Deputy Director . This is a full-time position responsible for assisting with the administration and operation of the Covington County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Emergency Management Deputy Director assists in maintaining the County's Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program. This position supports local disaster preparedness, emergency response coordination, public awareness initiatives, emergency planning, agency reporting, communications systems, and relationships with public safety agencies and government officials. The employee must be able to respond to emergency scenes, coordinate response efforts, maintain accurate records, prepare and submit required reports, and work non-standard hours when necessary to provide 24-hour emergency response coverage and participate in training activities.
Duties:
Assist with the administration of the County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program Assist with developing and maintaining local disaster preparedness programs Respond to emergency scenes and coordinate response and recovery efforts Conduct public education, outreach, and emergency preparedness activities Assist with maintaining and updating the County Emergency Operations Plan Prepare, maintain, and submit agency records and required reports Assist with emergency management budget requirements and documentation Maintain effective working relationships with public safety agencies, community organizations, and public officials Assist with maintaining emergency warning and communications systems Participate in emergency exercises, drills, training sessions, and community events Remain available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and other non-standard hours when emergency conditions require Provide 24-hour emergency response coverage as assigned Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field Two years of experience developing or supporting local disaster preparedness programs Relevant professional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis Ability to respond effectively during emergency and high-pressure situations Ability to communicate and coordinate with public safety agencies, government officials, community partners, and the public Strong written communication, documentation, and report-preparation skills Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required agency reports Ability to work independently and as part of a coordinated emergency response team Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours and provide emergency response coverage Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
